According to the VW Multivan Spec brochure combined cycle is 8.9L per 100km.

I have a new 2007 Multivan 128kw 6 speed auto that I have had for a couple of months. I have been a bit disappointed with the fuel consumption which has been around 11.1l/100km. In the same type of driving I was getting less than 8l/100km in my T4 diesel 5 speed manual van.

One of the reasons it uses more fuel, especially around town, is because of the particulate filter I think, but the climate control and all the electronic gizmos don't help either.

The power and the transmission is fantastic but you pay for it at the bowser.

          Thanks Ben.

I only found the site recently but I had a 1978 combi for many years and then a 2003 T4 that I traded on a new Multivan a month or two ago, so I am no stranger to VW vans.

The Multivan is certainly the best of my many cars by far but also the most expensive by far! I love driving it in any type of driving from country trips to city commuting but my wife is the main driver because my daily transport is 2006 BMW K1200GT motor bike.

What is a DP tuning module?

I assume you are not talking about a Multivan with that consumption as they only come in manual with 4 motion. What model is it?

It is a double door swb transporter, DP module comes from Berrima Diesel. It improves power and torque from 128kw-400nm to 155kw-455nm.

Does yours have the particulate filter like mine has? I would rather it didn't as it seems to increase fuel consumption and the manual also says you can't use bio diesel.

My 6 speed manual 4-Motion TDI gets around 10.5 l/100 Km's around town. This appears to go down significantly on highway driving. Recently did Adelaide/Alice Springs return, and got around 8.5 l/100 Kms.

                        Don't forget a T5 weighs upto 300kg more then a T4.

I've only done 4500Km since 10 July in my T5 LWB van having come from a '97 T4 manual and simply put I love the T5. I have the trip computer option which has 2 trip meters in one. The 2nd needs to be manually reset (1st one can reset by itself and I have to check the parameters for doing this) and it's showing an average of 9.8L/100km over 3500km. In this period I've actually done some heavy load work, eg 300km with 1000kg in the rear and towing 1200kg. It didn't even notice it. The gearbox itself is brilliant, in full auto mode it downshifts when slowing down providing some engine braking and is very smooth on the upshift while the tip-tronic manual mode is fun. At 100km/hr it sits on a little over 1900rpm in sixth not sure about how that compares to a manual T5. I guess the simple point I could make would be given a second buying decision what would I do...order another one as is without a thought. The manual will naturally be more economical however is CBD/suburban stop-start I thought the auto would be more relaxed and I wanted a more "cruisy" ride this time.. I fold the armrests down, turn up the mp3 radio, settle back and forget I'm driving a "van"..its that satisfying.

                            Hey Tornado,
The manual sits about the same as the auto. I'm doing about 2000 rpm at 110 kph.

Luckily that's a bit different to my old T4 5sp that sat at about 3000rpm/100km/hr.
