  • T4 Syncro Dual Cab...worth it?

I may be in the market for one of these, but what are the common issues - I know the diesel is expensive when it goes wrong and expensive to keep going (in truth I would prefer petrol on LPG). Air conditioning needs repair on occasion.
Also the redbook price (if you believe it) is around $13,000...what do they really go for at say 150,000km?

They only ever came with the Tdi in this form.....I've got one. The engine & driveline has never had an issue to date. Only the ancilliaries. AC compressor expired at 120K. Exhaust cat around the same time. Ignition switch at 150K.

As long as the unit has been properly serviced (including belt and water pump changes every 60 to 80K) then all should be fine...

As for pricing....if you find one then good luck to you. Personally, I'd like to think mine is still worth over 15K but no matter....it ain't for sale.

    But hell yeah.....it's worth it.

thanks. I took the time to find two servce managers at major dealers. Both told me of the challenges of anything over 150,000km and told me not to buy one with more K's and no service history...'money pit' was the phrase used. Oh well, it would have been perfect.

I agree with their comments about getting one with a service history. That applies to any vehicle. I don't agree with their comments about anything over 150,000km being a money pit though. There are literally thousands running around in the UK with 200/300 thousands of MILES without any major problems. The T4 Forum in the UK has 32,000 members, worth a read. The problem with some of the comments from service garages is that a lot of them can't see the big picture & base their opinions on what comes into their shop with problems.
It's very similar to a doctor who proclaims that everybody is sick because that's all he sees.
While there are a few items that regularly crop up, The biggest factors are how it was driven, what conditions it operated under & whether it was serviced properly by someone who knew what they were doing.

quite probably true. the issue I have is that for the most part the vehicles are on their third owner and no service history and all the other issues you raise are unknown.
The service managers in part did provide specific information which I have not relayed, but I see it as being unlikely that I will find a one owner car with log books for redbook price!

It depends on how quickly you want to move & how badly you want one. Although thin on the ground they will turn up but it might take months.
BTW nothing wrong with being the third owner, mine has had two previous owners & I have enjoyed over three years of trouble free ownership.
The only thing I have replaced is a temp sensor for the temp gauge.

Good to know. I will wait to see if a low km 2wd one comes up.
