Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Buying a transporter

looking to buy a transporter in the next few months.
    want a 1999 - 2005 model.
    turbo diesel
    manual
barn doors if possible, not extremely fussed though.
swb or lwb (how much longer is lwb?)

what do i need to look out for when buying?
major services at a certain km's?
    common problems?
what kind of price can i expect to pay ( depending on year km's etc)

and also who would i go to to get a folding bench seat put into the back and possibly a false floor.

any help to find the best bang for buck car would be helpful!

what do i need to look out for when buying? a big van with four wheels (and a spare tyre); a decent service history; used car salesmen
major services at a certain km's? New timing belt, water pump & gearbox oil every 60,000km....otherwise oils & filter every 15K. Pre2004 is an expensive model to maintain compared to post04 T5
common problems? Yes. But most common problems result in immobilising the van so you'll be fine.....
what kind of price can i expect to pay ( depending on year km's etc) Car Prices - Search Car Prices & Values Online - Red Book $5k to $19K
