Completely different engine in Crafter to that in T5, the Crafter is a joint venture with MB, so Sprinter has the same engine. Similar is only that both engines are German.
Are you sure, according to MB site the Sprinter comes with a 4 cyl and a V6 Tdi....or did the 5cyl come in the previous model? I thought the van itself was a JV between Merc and VW.

You're right and I apologize for confusing you (never post when in a hurry or not thinking straight). The Sprinter and the Crafter have a different engines. Here is more: Volkswagen Crafter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
However the engine in the Crafter is a common rail engine (in the T5 it was always PD until now) and it was in the time when I was buying my T5, also the diagnostic socket in the Crafter is different to the current range of the VW's and that's what confused me. I've never worked on the Crafter van but I have 3 customers with the Sprinters of different age now and the engine is MB in them, that's for sure.

That's OK, I had to look it up anyway. I remember when the current Crafter was released that it had a 2.5L I5 Common rail and wondered if this would be passed onto the T5. When I saw that it actually offered lower power and torque I then said "I hope not". I also now remember thinking "I hope the next T5 doesn't adopt the front end stying theme aswell, lol".

My Crater came from the factory with the 120kw 350nm power option, how far below is that " offered power/toruqe " of your transporter? Im guessing the factory has released it in a slightly lower state of tune due to its intended use/market, leaving a fair bit of margin to play with?
Hopefuly getting my ECU tweaked end of next week so should bump it up a bit.
Also hoping i dont have the same troubles with my crafter that transporter owners seem to have, fingers crossed.
when my water pump went at 80 (now 180k) i put something like 20 liters of water in over 2 days, dont really know if it caused engine damage but oil never went milky at all and didnt rise on dipstick. think it must be ok though as theres an extra 100k on it
