  • Looking to buy a Transporter

New user here, last VW owned was a Beetle nearly 30 years ago.

I'm looking to buy a van and have a 2010 T5 Transporter lined up at a very good price. It's nearly out of it's first year of registration and the compliance plate says 03/2010.

What's the deal with warranty on second hand (auction) vehicles? I been told that warranty is transferable (and some posts here confirm that) but can't see any information on the VW website. Also, what would the warranty be? Is it less for commercially registered vehicles?

    Regards
    Geoff

    Welcome to the forums mate.
The VW commercial vehicle warranty is 3 years/100,000km as far as I know and it is transferable. But you can always give a call to VW Australia to confirm that.

      Hi Geoff,
      Welcome!

Is the purchase from a dealer, or private?

        John,

Purchase is through a dealer (NSW)

Shouldn't have any problems. If you are going to keep the van for a while, you can buy the new car extended warranty prior to your original warranty expires. When new, your van would have had the 3 year/100,000km warranty. Is there many km on the clock now?
It is worthwhile considering, as some repairs can be very expensive.

Well that deal fell through or more precisely, it sold for more than I could afford.

Despite the fact that I like the Transporter, I decided I needed something a little bigger and with Crafters being few and far between, I ended up getting a Mercedes Sprinter. My apologies.

              They're cousins, you're still family

(couldn't let that one slide past!)

Well the Sprinter is sold as a Crafter so that's close family.

[Saw some nice examples of Crafter (and Sprinter) van conversions at the Camping and Caravan Show in Sydney this week]
