  • T5 Duel Cab Airbag Conversion?

Ok guys bare with me here this is my first VW.

I posted about the Standard Tray the other day and now I have another question before my T5 Duelcab arrives next week.

I contacted TipTop Equipment about my tray and then asked them about installing airbags in the rear for me, I have seen a lot of T5's sagging in the ass it seems to be very common with tradies, but they said they wont do it because the T5's have coil springs and that they will only do airbags with leaf springs. Is there a way to install the airbags without removing the Coil Spring's? Sorry if this has been asked before.

Hi mate, I'm tradie too and I carry a lot of tools in my T5, last year I installed raised springs and HD shockers and it helped a lot.

Springs (King Springs raised p/n KVRR18 or Pedders Heavy Duty p/n 7891)
Shockers (Pedders 120216 Comfort Gas are designed to match Pedders H/D springs)
    Performance Tunes from $850

      Revhead,

You can get air suspension "helper" bags that fit inside the coils. Polyair do the kit for the T5.
There are also a couple of complete coil replacement kits. I was pretty sure some of the NSW ambulances were running air suspension...

In my previous T4 I had the Polyair inserts from day one and used to place 1000Lt IBC containers in there without a problem. Did 298,000km before updating. In my T5 I went with the raised spring from Peddars as Transporter kindly listed. Having had both would now prefer the h/duty springs. Main reason is that the better springs removes the "bounce" effect present with the airbag method. Plus the tare of a T5 is a much heavier vehicle then T4. There are pro and cons for both depending on your requirement.
Air bags allow for adjustable ride height especially when empty. Although you have bought a dualcab so not an issue here.
IMHO, Replacement springs are better for permanetely loaded vans and I feel the van drives better when loaded. When ever I have 400-600kg in the back my ride height is level from front to rear and when upto 1000kg, the rear drops about 10cm. In the T4 I would still scrape the rear mudflaps under such a load and have never done this in the T5 with upgraded rear springs.
