  • Yellow Exhaust Warning Light.

VW transporter, 128 kW, 2009 version.

Some time ago I have the yellow exhaust probe warning light come on. I called the dealer who said just monitor it. It went out after a day or two. It has now come on and is staying on. what exactly does the light warm me of, can it do damage to the exhaust if it remain on, is it a dealer job to rectify. the truck is still under warranty so presumably it should go to the dealer?

    Any comments greatfully recieved.

Look in this thread, you most likely have the same problem. http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f97/...ght-47372.html
DPF pressure sensor. It is so common problem that I bought one from the dealer and it is in the glove box of our Tiguan, ready if we need it.

Could be a similar problem, but it's the yellow warning ight which depics an engine. What is a DPF? Do I have one?

Trip to the dealer required I think.

Yes you have one, every T5 made after 6/2006 has one. It may be that it can't regenerate for some other reason, definitely see your dealer asap. See also diesel section of the forum there is some info on DPF as well.

Thanks, have read the thread, now understand. I'd rather see a puff of black smoke than this anti pollution BS. Anyway off to the dealer.

Delete it , tune it and have the DPF byte changed so the dumb ecu doesnt see it. Works a treat, i know ive seen it!!!!!!!!!

Jmac, how do you delete it and change it?? Seems to me it does nothing but capture exhaust gas particulates, better in the atmosphere. Don't tell the Greens!

This thing has got me beat! Just as i was goingto the dealer with the yellow light alblase, it went out and has not returned about a week now. Don't understand what is going on. Can these things repair themselves?

had the same light come on, (it was going to dealer anyway) and it was the same as mentioned here a number of times a faulty pressure switch in the exhaust, however the light actually has (apparently) many sensors attached and it could be any of these, so who knows unleess it is plugged into a computer

Given the DPF costs a cool $4500, and is considered CONSUMABLE by VW, I'd get to the dealer and have them pull the error codes that will be recorded. They will replace whatever is at fault, and you want the DPF to be regenning as it should, you don't want any less than the 150k they are supposed to last. If it is the pressure sensor Miro speaks of, you will most likely need VW to calibrate it, I've replaced mine and tried to recalibrate it with Vag Com, but it is doing weird regens still, and it's driving me nuts.

I wonder if Jimmy can reset this bas#$rd?

people are confusing lights here, if the dpf/exhaust sensor fails it brings on the engine check light. You have the exhaust light on which means you dpf is getting clogged from city driving, to clean it out just go for a run down the highway and it should go out

Good point! I forgot there are two lights, I've only ever had the engine light for the sensors / my messing around.

THe warning light I am referring to is yellowish in colour and depicts an engine. It was on for some time, whilst I was away and now it's gone out. Surely if it has a fault it should remain on? My Transporter carries a "slide on camper" all up near to GVM so it get's plenty of long high speed runs. Might have to visit the dealer and get it checked, after all.

The DPF light, from an Audi I think, but you get the idea. The engine one means sensors, not blockage.
