hi...i just did the ball joints on my 2003 v6 caravelle 
It was a lot easier than i thought it was going to be with the help of the t4 ball joint extractor\installer tool from oz tool rentals, VW :: OzWideRentals.com.au , took me (hopless with this stuff) 3 hours from start to finish and at a cost of 318 dollars all up including parts
A couple of new tyres and an alignment and she is sweet to drive again
