After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • What can you tell me about the crafter?

    Hi all,

Searching around for some tips and ideas about the crafter.

Ive got a MWB High Roof 120kw 6 speed manual on order ( Has been since May! ), cant beleive ive had to wait so long for a van, its suppose to be finally getting built next week. Not sure how long it will then take to get here?

Comming with a few factory options,

    Cruise
    Arm rests for front seats
Windows at mid section either side of van
    High Roof
    120kw engine

Looking at converting it into a camper/motorbike hauler. Have bought a second hand double seat with intergrated retracting seat belts & head rests out of a sprinter. So will bolt that in to make it a 4 seater then will look at lining it, shelves, permanent double bed above double seat.

Any ideas on what to do with the floor? ply and rubber or just rubber or just ply?

Would it make it any quiter if i put some sort of insulation blankets in the sides/roof before i lined it with ply?

Will be looking for a nudge bar for driving lights and eventually a tow bar.

So mine should look something like this, but with windows,

Looking at this sort of shelving,

So after your thoughts, what they are like, tips, info about the crafter (what to do/what to look out for), links to helpful sites

    Cheers

    Hi, and welcome.

Not much Crafter traffic (excuse pun) on here, but I can offer a couple of suggestions. Definitely insulate before lining (but research the appropriate materials. You don't want to hold condensation against the inner skin). Made a big difference on my old T3, which was a bare van when I got it. Filling it up with bedding and curtains etc. helps as well.

If you're fitting as a camper, the latest Trakka's use a diesel fuelled cooktop (very nice looking too). Along with a compressor fridge, this means no need for gas bottles, and associated hatches and compliances. I presume they'd be available from caravan suppliers.

For a bit more Crafter info, try the UK site 'The Brickyard'.

      Thanks.

Had word on tuesday its actually on the boat already so might see it by the end of the month. Bit of a surprise because a couple of months ago they were saying it was only due to be built this week.

Have there been many known problems/warranty issues with the crafter?

seeing its a new one.....follow the manual on the particulate filter, we have worked out a way of unblocking them (renter vehicles), found a dude in the czech republic who also reckons leaving the filter in degreaser overnight then using an air line to blow out all the crap next morning. We use an oxy acetolene torch with a flame spreader to blow it out.
They hate to be driven starting off in 2nd gear (always stalls), but overall a fine vehicle.

I'd definitely insulate against road noise & heat. Dynamat/RAAM Audio followed by polyester batts in membrane bags (stops loose bits getting everywhere). You can glue polystyrene insulation sheet to the back face of your roof/wall linings for a final touch.

The cabinet framing system you are looking at is available from multiple sources. I would look for the alloy connectors instead of the nylon units more commonly found.

            RCR Connect It
            Connect-It

            Capral Qubelok
            Qubelok

There are quite a few German, French and Spanish firms that make kits from this material.

            Terracamper

Floor - I would go plywood and rubber with adjustable load rails. You can buy rails as found in aircraft cargo bays. Great for fitting lash down points for your bike.

Remember to post a build thread once you start!

I'm looking into some DPF options at the moment, I do alot of travelling in remote areas and dont need the hassle of being stuck in limp mode if it decides to s*&t itself.

Here are some pic's of my van so far,

Double seat you see in the pics i bought second hand out of a sprinter for $600 and mounted it myself. An aftermarket one like this with intergrated seat belts cost's over $2500 new.

The front of the bed folds up when your not using it for extra head room over the front seats.

Hope to get a tune done on it end of next week
