  • Help - I think I'm going batty ...

I picked up the T5 Multvan Highline from the dealer after having some work done last week, when I noticed that the bonnet latch was not properly closed. I haven't looked under the bonnet for some time, so I opened it up, and I think there's something wrong - I can see all the engine.
Can someone tell me if their Highline had an engine cover? I thought mine had one, but f it did it's not there now. I went back to the service centre, and the tech told me that the Highline T5 Diesel never had a cover. Am I going batty?

    Must be the moon, shogun

Had the same thought last week after I picked up my van after having the exhaust manifold replaced.

I've looked at the engine enough, but it did look bare, and I thought the same thing, they've left a cover off.

But I can see straight down at the cat, which I remember looking at a bit ago (thinking it was a dpf!), so nothings different.

I think we're just too used to seeing covers on VWs.

Covers just keep heat in, and prevent you getting to tinkering quicker. Mine has been collecting dust for years.

I agree Greg, except if there is insulation from the other side of cover, then it also reduces noise you can hear in and out. Other benefit to some could be that if you drive short trips, it reduces engine warm up times. There is insulation on engine sump in my T5, for which I'm grateful since I do many extremely short trips.

There is the sound insulation stuck to the bonnet - it helps make it quieter, but I could have sworn that there was an engine cover ....

Did you take any pictures with the bonnet up?
Do you remember topping up engine oil and spill some on the engine cover or remember wiping the dust of it?

Have a look at the plastic screws that secure the trim pieces (first picture). If they are marked, that is an indication that they have been removed.

They only have to be touched if you are removing the engine cover...

Surely you would have remembered having to lift the flap of the engine cover to view the "innards"?

                  Hi MM
You've obviously got a newer one than I have, but whilst the cover is obviously a bit different I remember the holes in the cover when the plastic screw things are.
