I'm installing a second battery in my 09 T5 Transporter. I can't find a 12v power source for the isloator unit that is linked to the ignition. Any suggestions? Appreciate the help.

This may help. Under the front passenger seat there is a bunch of connectors.
I have bench seat so it may look differently but you're looking for that colour connector and use multimeter to confirm that it is a right wire. There should be +12V when engine is running and 0V while cranking (very important!)
I used 12V to 12V battery charger that way the second battery is always charged up to 20A and didn't need h/d wires to connect. Disadvantage is it can't be used for emergency start up.
