Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I ended upgrading the Howling Moon Alu awning to a Fiamma F45Ti with the matching privacy room.

Awning was mounted to the Thule commercial aero bars using fabricated steel brackets. I fabricated four brackets using mild steel flat bar. Each bracket fixed to the back of the Fiamma awning case. There are channels cast in the awning case extrusion for this purpose. The other end of the brackets were secured to the Thule bars using double length Tee nuts.

The top of the awning case ended up just below the top of the bars. So no issues loading full width timber sheets...

Unfortunately no detailed pictures as I sold the van with the awning dismounted. I was in the process of getting the brackets powder coated when I changed vehicles...

Attached is a photo from the current (happy) owner. You can just see the awning case relative to the roof bars...

Hi I know this is an older thread but Im just trying to workout how the fiamma caravanstore awning that BOBR has on his t4 attaches to the roof, EG- via the std roof rack rails or some other way as that's what Im looking for to go with my 10' x 10' pit annexe. I don't want roof racks on the van so this would suit our purpose well, any help would be appreciated. regards mike.

I have a Rhino Sunseeker II awning attached to Prolock Whispbar racks. I am in the process of modifying the mounts so that the awning casing sits at the same level as the bars (I have height restrictions in my garage) and not 5-6cm above as it is now. I will try and post some pics when this is done.

PS I went with the Sunseeker awning as you can get accessories like a mesh tent and a Tagalong tent which attaches to the awning. Haven't invested in theses yet.

Im really interested in a quality awning for my T5 LWB van as well.
Im not after a rack so something that fits well to the mounts on the vans roof and doesn't stick out too far.
Tassie trip coming up scoping the Island for some where to move to after leaving the military.

I ended up buying an awning from TJM Townsville as they were on special. I forget the name, may be Sun Seeker. 2.5 m and only $280 I think. Obviously not the best available but for the amount of use it will get, it'll do me. I set it up today and it works a treat.
I also purchased a set of 3 Rhino rack Aero bars to mount it on (very nice and great quality Australian product)
Im seriously thinking of a Thule luggage pod so as to keep clutter out of the van when travelling and camping.
As Wardy mentioned, the mounting bars make the awning sit too high, so need to be modified to be in line with the top of the rack bars. Should be simple enough to do with some steel strap drilled, bent and painted accordingly.
Now if some one can point me to a UHF antenna mount that doesn't involve a bull bar, I'd appreciate that! ( like the Police have mounted in front of the windshield scuttle on their T5 vans).

              Best wishes all.
