  • T4 gear linkage

I was driving home from work today (in the pouring rain!!) and I could only select 3 and 4th gear not even reverse! Where can I find a diagram of the gear linkages and the bushes?? I need to replace.
At the gearstick end there is a round bush ( a little worn) and at the gearbox end the linkage is surounded by a D shape ring witch is loose whithout any bush is this right?
    Thanks Nik

Yours 5 cyl or 4 cyl mate???? 5 cyl is the pic you show. if it is you will need 701711166, 015311544, and 7D0711131. The ball and sockets are a bitch to fit mate, you will need a big bar, and make the bushes and balls soft by leaving them in boiling water for a bit, you will see why when you do the job.

I see you have found the Brickwerks site and asked for info on there.
Someone with the knowledge will be along when they wake up to give you the answer.

Had the same problem couple of years ago in a T4, vannin.
Before I took it to my mechanic (Volkshome) I asked him if I could do it myself, he said most likely not as it gave them a hard time.
He also said they had made a special tool that made the job a bit easier for them.

            Ok these are the parts,

The 2 outside pieces are off the gearbox and the 3 bushes cost me $20.
Im sure they are installed this way. The middle bush in the pic was a pita to remove off the linkage and in doing so the pin that goes throught the stock mount was broken but the aftermarket one doesnt have a hole for a pin so does it just slide on?

More pics forgive me Im not a photographer,

This is a pic of the new bush left and the old one on the right.
Although the old one is damaged you can still see that its way larger I.D. than the new one is it spose to be THAT different.
The larger ball went on fairly easy after being soaked in boiling water but the smaller one wont even go close

You sure its alot smaller. What about how the original one had a pin through it.
                    Thanks Nik

Ok I got the smaller ball on...after removing the linkage from the van.
With a quick boil up in the billy the ball pushed on easy.
Once back in the van I installed the cup in the metal ring and tried to push in the ball. No luck I kept pushing the cup out of the retaining ring. So I put a pry bar behind it but this time the ball just slid on the shaft (I hadnt used a pin like the stock one) so out it all came again.
This time I drilled a hole through the ball and installed a pin. I installed the cup onto the ball out side tha van then back under again. Now all I had to do was push the cup into the metal ring, but I couldnt get it to go in straight so after lots of tries and running out ouf time I settled on 90% in.
I put everything back together but now I was missing R and 1st was were R used to be. back under loosen the clamp that holds the linkage to the selector and turned the shaft without moving the selector. Back together now I had R but no 5!!
#rd time was just right all gears are back
Hope my mess helps someone else!
