Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • T4 2.5TDI with 300++ hp

    Here's a video where I tried to time 80-120kmh and 100-150kmh respectively on my T4. Didn't work out...

    There was some moisture on the road, but I only used 75% throttle as this setup is new.

    I stated 300++ because on the road I use 2,0bar boost with adequate injection but on the rollers pressure won't stay up because there's not enough resistance. That's why there's only 305hp, 590Nm @1,3bar on paper. This power is made with diesel only. Although there's few additional things that I use on the 1/4-mile... This van is in everyday use.

              Looks awesome! the torque figure isn't very high for the hp it puts out, current 2.5 TDi's make 400nm's of torque without anymods.

                True, but as you can see my van makes 250Nm @1900rpm which is max torque for original 102hp T4. More important than having lots of torque, is where torque peaks. Nomod TDI engines make their torque peaks around 2200rpm with their tiny turbos but they can't flow gasses enough to make nice max power. It's always a compromise, but I woudn't like to have 600Nm @ 2000rpm region, because it would brake everything. To have 600Nm in 3500rpm is much safer and that's the key for nice top power.

                    That's very doable. We are making a Jetta 1.6TD and we have decided to settle for modest 160hp.

                    Week ago my friend did 230hp, 450Nm @1.6bar with his Golf 1,9TDI -99. There was no smoke so remapper decided to increase fueling. Unfourtunately it made turbo to surge so it was left as it was earlier. Now we have to find a better sized turbo for it as his goal is 250hp. His engine is made much like mine as I told some of my secrets to him.

                        I was drag racing with my van at the weekend. Here's my timeslip.

                        It feels really fast now and that trap speed indicates that there is more than 300hp in it, much more. My ET is always bad compared to trap speed as heavy FWD has lot of traction problems. Although it still manages 0-100kmh in 6,5-7,0s.
