Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • has anyone fitted a double din stereo in the dash of a T4?

    hi all,
I just bought an RCD500 head unit out of a late Golf to stick in my Caravelle.
Just wondering if anyone else has had a shot at installing one of these, or any other double din head unit in the dash of their T4
From the outside there looks like heaps of dash fascia and it will go in fine, but pull off the fascia, and there's a big steel bar behind the dash.
How important is this steel bar? I guess if it didnt need to be there, it wouldnt be?

That bar probably supports dash and could hold the dash in case of the front impact accident. Modifying the bar could affect safety inside the cabin. If you decide to alter it, you could try to form the bar to different shape (or make a new one), if there is a space around it.

VW were prettyy stupid, cause they made two different bars, for one din or two din models.

On solution is to dismantle the whole dahsboard and change the bar with a bar suitable for a 2 DIN...

The other solution is to dismantle the two din unit and separate them in two units (you need to find a longer connecting cable, depending of your relocation)

On link here but it's in dutch (plenty of picture hoepfully), use translate.google
