T5 Insulation availanble in Australia

G'day everyone.
What insulation have you used (for temp and noise) prior to carpeting your vans?
The Brits have no end of choices, and the Hemp or wool sounds great. Has anyone used these products here on the list, and if so, where did you purchase them from, and approx price?
Thanks for any advice, as I've drawn a blank here in Townsville (and the attitude of the upholsterers who I've called is pathetic).

look in the audio section , people use some material in the doors (very expensive) I forgot the name, they probably would be the experts in the noise insulation in the car. I would just mention that when I removed the door trim on my last Van (Vito) I was shocked how loose were the supports for the door skins I bought the cartridge of SikaFlex and used it on all doors - it made big difference in noise level inside and the door changed sound during closing too.

I would be interested what other people done as far as the noise insulation and carpeting goes.

I used roofing mat and cut it to fit. Very quiet van now and well insulated temperature wise.

I used some stuff I got from Clark Rubber off the roll, which was some sort of sponge about 1cm thick with silver foil on one side for heat insulation in the roof cavity of my kombi beach, and it had the added side effect of reducing road noise a lot. The ceiling was about $AU100.

The best product is Dynamat. Ebay is your friend. There is a aussie forum dedicated to sound systems and the doof doof type. The strong recomendation there is also dynamat.

I have some sound deadening stuff from Melbourne Found them in the 4wd mags but its a felt type based product and you need to be careful where is goes, cause once wet its*****.

I also have the dynamat in the other door of my ute and there is a big difference.

The key to proper sound insulation is killing all gaps. My dynamat door has a double layer on the inside of the door skin, then thin aliminium cat to shape and tek screwed and temp gluedthe inside panel where you can get your hands in to the inside of the door.then more dynamat spread over the lot. All bars fr door locks, openers and window mechanisms are wrapped in duct tape several time ....again to prevent rattles. then before the door trim went on a thin strip of foam went around the inside edge then the door trim pushed back into place.
This is on a 97 Holden Rodeo lives out in the country on dirt roads and the difference is amazing

Thanks for the advice and photos.
I should have mentioned that I have lined the floor, fire wall, inner and outer skins of the doors and wheel arches of the van with Dynamat Extreme already, but wanted a different layer of insulation over load area walls and ceiling, prior to getting MDF sheet cut to fit the inside, and having this carpeted.
The Dynamat has made a difference, but I want to really sound proof as much as possible using a hemp, wool or other non toxic or carcinogenic mat. The roofing mat in Bob's photos is along the lines of the product I'm after. Just not keen on fibreglass based products, with the risk of the fibres floating around the van.

I took a different approach to controlling unwanted sound in my van - I now wear sound-cancelling earphones. They are very effective at cutting out road roar and engine noise , and I find driving long distances much less tiring now.

I can still hear sirens etc, but they would make conversations with passengers more difficult. Not a problem for me, I usually only travel in my van with my dog to agility trials, and I'm not very interested in her critiques of what I did wrong at the last trial

Couldn't do that Greg (although I do use ear plugs on my bikes).
I ended up purchasing 2 packs of sound insulation batts, made from recycled bottles or the like. totally hypo-allergenic, so no nasty fibres.
lined the lower half of the van with them yesterday, and will line the upper section inc ceiling once I can source some panels for the upper half of the walls.
The stuff was really easy to use, and thread into the multitude of crevices of the lower van walls.

Also some more Dynamat Extreme on the walls would be good.
