New generation of the Transporter, Multivan, Caravelle and California
They look great from the outside... But that interior is to die for! Looks nothing like a commercial car any more
Actually, apart from the steering wheel and dials, there is very little change in the interior (that one can see), noting that this is a left hand drive version which is a slightly different layout to a the right hand drive in any case.
See link to VW Mulltivan on German VW site for current left hand drive model.

Static lights on the rear, could they be for reversing around corners?? They work well on the front, perhaps they want your to see where you have been as well as where you are going.
Are the indicators above the highbeam lights towards the centre of the car?
Yep, I was wondering how visible they would be there from side on versus the current position.
You can't seriously compare gearshifting in manual T5 with DSG.
Sorry, where did I say anything about gearshifting ? I will stand by my original opinion (above) on acceleration unless/until I'm proven wrong . Just to clarify, if my van does 0-100kmh in (say) 11.8 and the new one does it in (say) 11.3 then I would regard that as being not a huge amount faster, but a full 1.5 seconds faster would qualify.
AFAIK top speed on all T5 TDIs is electronically limited to around 190Kmh (actual), so gearbox type is irrelevant to top speed.
My reasoning is : given the delay in getting moving from a standstill I've experienced with all the (several) VW DSGs I've driven so far, the 7 speed DSG T5 will lose a bit in initial takeoff, then gain a bit on the gearchanges, but lose out due to extra changes needed (presumably the 7 gears will be more closely spaced together than the existing 6 speed).
So up to 110Kmh (our max legal speed in most of Australia, and even there I can't remember the last time I've done a full bore 0-100kmh, almost always it is 0-60 or 0-80) I can't see the new'un being "a huge amount faster".
Given that acceleration is basically all about traction (no changes there) and power to weight ratio (very little change), what are your reasons for believing differently ?

I'd agree, in a shot of the more basic Transporter dash the main dash body is unchanged while the "module" incorporating the HVAC/radio controls is new and more curved. Both outer air vents , headlight switches, ash tray, fuse box cover, hazard flasher switch and gear lever surround has been carried over from T5. In fact I wonder if someone cluey enough could rip out a T5 centre stack and drop in a T5.2 unit?

Many thanks.
It will be interesting to how much the RHD dash layout will vary from the LHD as currently occurs.
I see they have continued with the low rear door handle, everyone that tries to open the door first tries with the number plate light. GUV.
That's where it should be so you don't have to bend down so far to open the tailgate. Skoda must have smarter engineers than VW, on my Octy that's exactly where it is located (in between the number plate lights)

If the 7 speed DSG in the T5.2 is as good or better then the DSG I'm driving in the loaner Caddy Maxi-commercial then I'm definately looking forward to driving the new Transporter, and I'm drooling over the thought of an AWD DSG.
FOR THE LOVE OF HUEY......THERE IS A.......bugger it. Hopes are dashed.
Following Tornado's link I very quickly determined that the dream combination of the 132kW biturbo TDI, 7 spd DSG and 4Motion are available in the Transporter.....
But not in the Double Cab. Despite being gettable with the 132Kw engine and DSG.....4motion is only available with the 103Kw TDI and never with DSG.
And the pricing is......<yikes>
103kw TDi 6-speed double cab = 28,000 euros plus tax, 4motion adds 2,500 euros while the DSG option adds 1,750 euros.
132kW biTDI 6-speed double cab = 30,600 euros plus tax with the DSG adding another 1,750 euros
...and this is without the options like airbags, ESP, air conditioning, diff locks, you beaut suspension and all the other toys. Damn that's gonna hurt!!!
I decided that I would wait at least 2 years and buy when all small faults are ironed out. Than, maybe T6 will be around the corner, and if my T5 4motion would still be in a good shape, I wait to get T6, that may be 4 years from now. I really don't miss the DPF box and the replacement van will have it, but 4years is long time and DPF will improve by than and should cause minimum problems in my everyday very short trip-driving regime. In almost 5 years I done only 70,000km, van looks like new, it would be waste of money to swap it for T5.2 or whatever they will call it.
