Snow trip precautions

I have a snow trip comming up this weekend to Falls Creek and I have been wondering if there are any special precautions I should take with driving the TDi crewvan in cold conditions.

I'm going this weekend. I think you can buy alpine grade diesel down there to help with the cold weather. Other than that just let it warm up longer before driving and take it easy until the temp guage has mooved up a bit.

I have had the the warning alarm with snowflake on the dash come on a few time when driving home late at night around here and the outside temp reads 4c. I guess its just a warning to be wary of possible ice etc.

The only concern I can think of would be ensuring your diesel fuel can cope with the cold. Usually the refiners switch to a "winter" blend throughout most of the southern states anyway. I took our T5 in it's first week of ownership up to Buller for 4 days using fuel I bought in Bayside Melb and all was OK.

PS. You may already know this, however if you leave the exterior mirror adjustment switch in the centre position, it also demists the two external mirrors when you turn on the rear tailgate demister.

I only found out in the carpark on the mountain when I noticed the mirrors demisting and felt the mirror glass which was quite warm....and then like any normal male read the manual later....

Shouldn't be any real cold weather to worry about this weekend at Falls. In fact the temperature has been so warm there may not be much snow left at all and forecast for this weekend is around 17c

Us and "Tim the Toolman", iirc he said something along the lines "real men don't need instructions", just before he went to hospital casualty. Hope you find some snow and have a good/safe time.

PS. One thing I remember was trying to drive out of the carpark while it was still full. It was packed in so tight and my T5 is a LWB. It took 2-3 minutes of steering wheel gymnastics to get it out due to the large turning circle....and we managed to get -4degC on the dash readout. Be prepared for the warning chime when the ice warning alert comes on...it surprised the hell out of me as I was focussing on the road avoiding the idiots that were fitting chains in non-dedicated areas on the wrong side of the road. Hopefully you won't have such conditions.

I just got back from 9 days at Thredbo and things were getting uncomfortably warm.

I hope the snow holds out for you and there are some fresh falls in the forecast (coz snow is king!!!)

come to Perth Rob, the official coldest minimum on record is 0.1deg C (and that lasted for about 5 minutes) before it warmed to a nice winter's day of blue sky, nil winds, no clouds for 100kms in every direction and a max of 19deg C.

Is that the sort of winter you are looking for?

on the other side, our max record in summer is 46.8

Which city will have the pleasure of your relocation? As to snow, Melb. is 3 hours away from the snow fields (eg:http://www.mtbuller.com.au/winter/) & http://www.mtbuller.com.au/Winter/We...eport/Snowcams in question while Sydney might even be further. Don't worry, whatever cold we get in any city won't compare to the winters where you live.

We are on our way to Adelaide...

Now i know people from other cities always take the **** out Adelaide but after some research it looks like the correct place for us.

We can always move on if i am wrong.

We have now got state sponsership from the SA goverment but that means nothing as we have found out over the last 18 months.

The OZ goverment can change there minds to what ever they like regarding the visas.

Anyway the now can never be like it is here in the UK.(where we live).

If you are living in Adelaide, trust me, it won't be the winter cold you'l be worrying about, it will be the searing heat in summer

Rob, there are only about 4 little hills here in Oz which get a bit of snow. None of them are close to Adelaide. Your good lady does not haveto worry
