  • VW Australia Commercial Track Day

    Hi All

I've been lucky enough to be invited to the VW Australia Commercial Corporate Track Day (Yes, long name) being held in QLD this weekend

I'll get a chance to drive the full commercial range on a skid pan! - I am somewhat worried about rolling something

Going to take a heap of photos & all that jazz Hopefully a few getting a Caddy rather sideways

    Really looking forward to it!

Wow that should be fun. Howd you get an invite to that? I wouldn't mind having some fun with someone elses vans.

Sounds like great fun - and a very interesting way to sell commercial vehicles!

The Caddy is very slidable, especially with the handbrake on dirt or wet roads. The long wheelbase and Golf front-end makes it super-easy to control when the back steps (or is forced) out.

A 4Motion Transporter on a wet skidpan would be quite a laugh!

        Enjoy!

I am going there for work, I think that is next week for me.
          Cheers,
          Mark.
If it has tits or wheels, it's gonna cost you.

I've seen a video of a 4motion Transporter having great fun doing big long sideways drifts around a large snow-covered carpark - it looked like the driver was having a great time.

              Just lucky I guess

Looking forward to driving some other vans (Caddy is the first van I've owned) just to see how much difference there is in regards to size etc.

I'm actually hoping they'll have a few cans with DSG so I can experience it

Any vans that I should keep my eye out for? Besides the crafter being RWD

Going to take heaps of photo's which I'll post first chance I get upon my return home

Was an awesome day on Saturday! Got to drive the entire VW commercial range in various tests... Along with a few of the passenger cars such as the Passat CC TDI (Best passenger car I got to drive was a Mk6 Golf TSI for a jim-kahna).

Also got some hot laps (Not driving sadly) in an R50 & R36

Will post photos over the next few days

This is what I could find out (Didn't get as much time to drill the staff about upcoming stuff as much as I would've liked):

Sportline Range - Not coming to Australia (Technically) as it's technically the middle of the VW range. So when talking about the Transporter, they bring in the entry level, & the top end (Carnival I think it's called)... But the way they were talking about things made me think you could actually order a Sportline car if you wanted.

Caddy 4Motion - Sadly not coming to Australia, mainly due to the Caddy's already high price point when compared to the competition.

Revamps - No word for Caddy revamps, but the new Transporter is ment to be coming to our shore Feb 2010... Mainly cosmetic changes from what I could gather... But the Six Cyl motor is being dropped

Amarok - Didn't hear a thing about it.

They probably meant the 2.5l 5 cyl R5 motor (T5s never came with a 6cyl motor - unfortunately). The current gossip is that the 2.5l will be replaced by a twin (sequential) turbo 2.0 TDI that has more power AND more torque than the current 2.5l R5 (which has 128Kw and 400Nm).

He means the 3.2 V6 petrol

Thanks for asking shame nothing about Amarok

I keep forgetting about that engine , mainly because so few people buy T5s with it fitted.

It is probably being phased out because VW didn't want to do the work necessary to get it past the latest emissions standards (hence the demise of the Golf R32), plus VW seem to be keen on going to smaller motors to improve fuel economy and reduced CO2.
