  • Leaky back door - Beach

    Hi all
wondering if any T5 or Beach owners have experienced a leaking back door. Not too happy about it as it leaks on my matress. Probably a bit hard to prove to VW as well unless it is dumping down at the time. Not a major leak, but just annoying.

If cargo door, I take it you have a tailgate rather then wing/barn doors? The only leak I ever experienced was from poorly a sealed screw on the roof rail where you attach roof racks. The dealer mistakenly fitted a full length rack at pre-delivery and never tightened one rear-most screw after its removal.

I would think that it wouldn't be to hard to run a hose over the rear door and have someone watch from inside for leaking?

If it's the seal or something near the door that should be fine but I've owned enough leaky cars over the years (mostly Fords, incidentally...) to know that where the water comes in and where it deposits itself can be two vastly different things.

Somethings to consider are: does the water come in while parked or only when driving? If it leaks while parked, does it do so on the level or at an angle? Worse at some angles than others?

Funnily enough you can also check leaky rear door seals in the dry - take it for a fast bash down a dirt road then look for areas where dust is blowing past the seal.

That it's getting on the mattress might suggest it's dripping down. Look up!

Check your integrated high brake light lens cover. My first one fell off my Beach!

The replacement cover had some help from Sika - it is now firmly in place and water tight.

Will check all the above, however as far as leaky goes, I could tolerate that on my 76 camper, but a lot has changed in 32 years, no leaks should be one of those things!
