  • New Owner - T5 Muitivan - Highline TDi 4Motion Manual

    Picked up yesterday!

We started out searching for a T4 Caravelle but most were 150km+ and were looking for $20-25K. Almost all were previously owned by Brethren families and had the Stereo (and rear DVD Player in V6 models) removed, and were just a little trashed out.
Any T4's with lower Km's seemed to be asking $28-30K, I just didn't see the value, so we upped the budget a bit and started looking at T5's.

We actually totally lucked out. We found the exact spec that I would have wished for - TDi, Manual, 4Motion, and Highline was an unexpected bonus in our budget.
My first car was actually a T4 Transporter 2.5L which I just loved (T4 now in VW Heaven due to rather sudden introduction to the wall on the M2)

We traded another VAG in for the Multivan - B5 Audi A4 1.8TQ Avant.

I have a few questions which I will post up in the next few days.

    OK, first question.

I'm a bit nervous about the electric doors, I love the feature but I'm just worried about what happens when something goes wrong. Fortunately they have just been serviced/fixed by the Sealer as they were not working correctly when they traded it in.
Has anyone else had any issues? Any tips?
Can they be reverted to manual if they stuff up?

There are two sliding door buttons (one in the middle and one on the side) on the key fob and in the manual it explains that one should open the left door and the other the right. On both our keys the middle button open/closes both doors and the side one doesn't do anything. I'm sure I can have this fixed with a VAG but I wondered if anyone else remembers how theirs came from the Factory.

        Hi b_star,

Your post has just prompted my memory.
I have been having intermittent problems with the electric doors for some time. One door - the left one, the dash light blinks as though there is an intermittent connection. The dealer has replaced the sensors under warranty, but it still occurs. There are also occasions when the door power fails, so we have to close it manually. It's not an issue, just a pain that it doesn't work properly.

Apart from that - welcome to the club!

          G,day b star,

You did well to get a 4motion TDI second hand, there were none that came up for sale when we were looking around 7 months ago. Cant help you with the doors as ours is a comfortline, I wish we could have coughed up the extra for the highline I really miss leather seats (much easier to clean up after the kids).

Any chance you can post some pictures?

          Cheers

            Hey b_star,
Left hand door wouldn't close yesterday. I just pulled it closed manually, and the electric mechanism then locked it. It's due for a service, so I'll mention it again to them. Will let you know what goes.

              Hi All,

Thanks for the replies. I will get some pics up soon.
We are really happy with the car so far!

The doors are playing up a fair bit just now. I'm glad I've got the 3mths warranty with the stealer to sort it out.

Only one is opening and then one closes and then bounces back open just as it is about to lock. One is also getting 1/3 closed and then bouncing back.

Can anyone tell me how their keys came from the factory? Did the two door buttons open each door separately?

Any info on if they can be reverted to a normal manual door if the problems get to exy to fix?

              Thanks!

Hey Blog, Yep we totally lucked out! I was a bit worried as it was all a bit to easy.... exact spec, nice colour (Ravenna Blue), the stealer was close to my house, there had to be a catch!
