• YAY new T4

Hi all
Finally bought a T4 after months of searching. Ended up with a white (what else) 2000 model blind van (no side windows) manual 2.5 petrol with air and power steer and only 145,000 ks. Has all log books and drives like a dream. The rear cargo area is spotless and the body is unmarked. It even has a set of mags! Paid 10 grand, a little over budget, but I am very happy with it. Will post a pic when I work out how.
Does anyone think I paid too much?
Regards
BobR

I think that's reasonable.

Congrats on your new purchase

No, I think I didn't get enough on mine when trading...then again mine had 295K+ km and was a 1997 build. Oh, I got $5500 trade-in back in 2007. Based on your description I think you did well.

Actually, as an owner of a low kays 2001 model, I think you paid much too little!!

Depressing how much value these things loose in such a short time.

At 145,000km it is not very much run in. Give the thing a good service (inc. g/box oil) right away and regularily into the future.....it should go forever

I bought a teal/green 97 T4 with 170k, 2.5 U manual, air con etc. Windows in middle but not back, spotless and unmarked and with removable 2 seats in the back for 10,000 about 2 months ago. I love it. I think you got a good deal.

I wish I had mags.

Well done lads on joining the T4 club, by my experience you won't regret it.
I have recently upgraded after 9 years of a T4 to a T5 and I miss the driving the old bus.

And for any one who may be interested I will be advertising my T4 on this forum soon.

BTW Soulspirit, get the mags brother, don't dream it, do it

If you like them, the standard alloys from the Tiguan will bolt straight up to the T4.
You might pick some up from posting a wanted on the Tiguan section.
You will need new 16inch tyres as the Tiguan tyres are to big overall, the biggest is 205/65/16, which is +25 from 195/70/15. The big 16's make the response a little bit slower but correct the speedo to be exact.
There might even be an increase in the alloy range available now with more demand.
Here is already a set advertised.

I will, I have been looking at these which are both 475 on ebay.

I can't spend that much money right now. But I would be interested in buying scratched or otherwise damaged mags if any one has some? ( should put it in the wanted section).

Also BobR, I highly recomment getting windows fitted to your "blind" van. I couldn't live without them.

Hi All
Took the van for a run from Sydney to Bega via Princess Hwy and returned to Sydney via Cooma/ACT and freeway. I had a major service done to it on friday, so it was in tip top order. It was a leisurely drive down the coast, kept up with the traffic and getting familiar with the T4. The van is rock solid on the road and comfortable, very easy to drive. Arrived at Bega and fuelled up with 41 litres for the 401km drive. Thats 10.25 l/100km....not bad.
The return trip took me up Brown mountain at Bemboka, a 12km 1000m+ rise that tests the best of them. Up it went in 3rd gear all the way with the exception of the 2 tightest bends at 2nd gear....very impressed. From the top of Brown mountain until I turned off the freeway in Sydney it was game on. It was dangerous travelling at 100ks so I kept up (and passed) with the quicker ones. Got home and fuelled up with 62 litres for the 540km return trip. Thats 11.5 l/100km. Overall, 941km, 103 litres fuel averaging 11 l/100km for the trip.
Very happy with the T4 in both performance and economy, and it impressed the hell out of my mate in Bega.....Go Baz.

When you use photobucket -

upload the image, and then once its up there go back to the normal view. Under the image, in one of the little field that are there should be the http://photobucket....transporter1. guy. Just paste him into the text body.

You can also use the little button above the window that you type the messages into within the forum itself. That one just does the html code for you. Its the little mountain with a sun above it. ( yellow and grey) In that case just copy the URL from photobucket that is just a plain old html:// blah blah blah....

I hope that helps. I just woke up.

Nooooo!!! Don't cut holes in a perfectly good van, just adjust your mirrors properly.

I agree with Soulspirit. You just can't adjust your mirrors to properly see both behind you and out to the side at an angled intersection (to see traffic coming up from behind you on the road to your left). Just one fixed window in the passenger side sliding door may save your life (and the lives of others !)

Sometimes aesthetics have to take a back seat to safety (IMO).
