T3 Caravelle armrest fix

Help! I stupidly unscrewed the adjusting rod for the armrest all the way out to try to fit seat covers, and now can see no way to get it to re-engage in the thread inside the armrest - anybody ever had this problem and solved it, without pulling the rest entirely apart??
