Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Discovering an unknown feature.

I'm the first to admit I haven't read my T5 manual cover to cover in the 2 years of ownership, too busy enjoying the . Anyway I thought it would be interesting for others to add features they never knew their T5 had until an accidental discovery.

I experienced one today. I always knew that if the key is turned full left in the drivers side door lock and held there all doors are locked and all open windows are powered up while the key is kept turned left. However I found out today that if turned full right and held there the windows are powered down as well after the doors unlock. Has anyone else found a feature they didn't know existed?

I've never used the key in lock to open my door, but I will try it today. Thanks.
It would be better, if it could be done using the remote, but there is nothing in VCDS (Vag-com) on it.

P.S. Tried and it does the same.

Thanks for the tip....mine does the same!

I also discovered that if I turn the car off with the blinker still on the buzzer sounds at me. Not real sure what the purpose of that is though.

The parking light on the side you've got the indicator on is "ON", so it let's you know, if you leave it on for long time you would discharge the battery.

On the skinny european roads they leave the offside light illuminated when vehicle parked as a clearance light so your van isn't side swiped by someone not seeing it.

The window up/down via remote is an option on the Golf so maybe it could be added to the Multivan via vagcom, can you add instructions?

The Caddy is also able to do this via the remote.

                Haha this again

*Listens to the sounds of pennies dropping as people suddenly realise why parking lights are actually called as such or 'parkers' for short lol*

I think the key + hold feature has been available since Mk III Golfs so probably on equivalent generations of other models since the same time as well. You can add the remote + hold feature to Mk IV remotes via software but it's not a VAGCOM on/off type feature. Do a search for "kvw100" as that aftermarket gadget may suit other models not just the Golf et all platform. Fuzion has a few for sale at the moment too.

                Cheers

It appears to me that it doesn't have the controller or option for that to be changed in VCDS.

Yeah that's it. The kvw100 gadget reprogram the central locking functions directly to the ecu, bypassing the VAGCOM 'switches' which are just on/off settings. I'm sure some of the other aftermarket cables & software would allow you to directly reprogram as well - if you know how!

Ah ha! I discovered the buzzing indicator just this week on my '98. Thought 'headlights' and flicked them on and off a few times, then walked round the front and saw the left park light on. Thought something had shorted out. Even thumped the dash a couple of times (old school repair style). Gave up, went and did my errand then discovered the indicator on after I got back and started the motor. It was a real WTF moment.

Thanks all for clearing that one up

                          Parkers

Yes, VW's have had this feature 'forever'. Certainly my 1990 & 1986 Transporters had it, and, I think my 1975 Golf as well. I can't be sure about that last one though, because it was 1975 when I owned it. Pretty sure the '63 splitty I had in the mid 80's (and sold for $500) didn't though.

                              Indicator Chime

Wish I'd have seen this post a few months ago. I took my 07 Van in under warranty due to the bloody chime which I couldn't identify. I drove out of there quite embarrassed!
