  • T4 2.4L Diesel Oil - Argh!

I want to do an oil change soon, like to do it around every 5000k - have done in every car I've owned.

I bought the van while I was living in Mullumbimby NSW and had been buying oil from the local VW mechanic, refilling an empty 5L oil container.

Now I'm not sure which oil he had been selling me.

I think it was Penrite HPR 5D but not sure.

Any suggestions as to what you've been using in your T4 2.4L naturally aspirated diesel?

Van is a T4 2.4L Diesel, LWB, looks like it's a bit higher off the ground than normal, Syncro, Trakka fit out with fridge, sink and liquid fuel (metho) stove. Heaps of room under the bed, can fit a queen size mattress! I love it, apart from being way under powered - 2.4L diesel in a vehicle the size of a tank.

Ah, how 'bout that! The Penrite website tells you the recommended oil

    HPR Diesel 15 (15W-50)

Now to find some where that has that on the shelf

The site says you can also use HRP 5 (5W-40) but I don't believe it gets cold enough in Adelaide to warrant using a 5W but it does get hot enough to warrant a -50

Maybe I should use HRP 5 during the cooler 6 months of the year and HRP D15 during the warmer 6 months.

Oh yes. I know all about that... 55kw... sheesh! Love it though, especially the extra space camping in a LWB.

Can't help with the oil though - don't do my own services.
