Great feedback guys. I think I will get my tranny oil and filter changed at the next service.

Zoinks, give us an update on how the larger tarns coolers go.

I'm less then 1500km from my 60K service and Burwin's is my selling/service dealer so I'll enquire in the next week or two and get back as well.

Thought I'd add to this thread as it's on topic. I booked my MY07 T5 (1 weeks time) for it's routine 60K service and asked about including a fluid change for the auto gearbox. It's obviously not factory specified at this time although the dealer service dept manager made the comment he wished it was a mandatory service item. They have an ambulance with 200,000km in for a gearbox change over and it's costing somewhere near $6000. iirc. I was told that the extra gearbox service including filter changes, fluid etc will be approx $600. I have no idea if this is a reasonable cost or exactly what's involved however I have still 1 year or 40K to go under warranty and I'd rather spend 1/10th on servicing then potentially face major problems later. The dealer will be ordering in the parts and he mentioned they might now start stocking one or two kits as well. I am doing more towing with trailer loads near 1200kg plus trailer (another 500kg) and sometimes with lots of reversing on a delivery run that could include upto 20-24 farms in a day.

          What do you think?

            $600 is excessive.

I suggest you get a second opinon from A & B Automotive Remanufacturing at Dandenong.

Given that all they are doing is changing fluid and filters, $200 would be nearer the mark.

            Regards,

            Scott

Would this have any effect on my warranty considering I have 1 year or 40K to go? I must add I have no probs (touch wood) at all with my gearbox, I just like pre-emptive maintenance and I don't know what I'll do re a change over considering it's a 5 yr finance and it's only 2 years gone next month.

Edit, just fired off an email to your link to ask for an estimate, thanks.

                Hi Tornado T5,

I wouldn't have thought that your warranty should be affected, but it would certainly worth verifying. From a Trade Practices Perspective, a 'third party' (eg non dealer) can service without voiding a manufacturer warranty. Also A&B do most of the European brand's/dealer's warranty work including VW.

I suppose you could also ask the dealer to match the quote that you receive from A&B.

                Regards,

                Scott

I thought I'd add to this post rather then start a new one. Had the 60K service today. I had requested a gearbox fluid change however unfortunately the kit failed to include the filter. Turned out not to be such a problem as on investigating a knocking sound I had reported coming from the front left when making right hand turns the service guys found I need to replace the left drive shaft, luckily under warranty.

So it goes back on 1/7/09 for the gearbox fluid change and drive shaft replacement and I'll be loaned a Caddy with DSG box, which I'm really looking forward to.

P.S. Never got a reply quote from A&B for the fluid change.

Disappointing that A&B did not respond to your email. Perhaps phone them if you want follow up.

                      Regards,
