  • t4 front bench seat

I have a 96 t4 that I would like to add an extra seat to. I cant really add one to the rear as it will interfeir with my camper set up so Ive seen uk models with front bench seats and thought this could be a solution although I would lose the "walk through" design.
Did Oz models come with this seating set up, if so were is the handbrake and auto shifter located with a bench?
    Thank for any input.

I can not answer the question about the seats in OZ...

But the seat does not come across the far far enough to interfere with the hand brake of auto shifter or manual shifter.

I can not see why you can not get one in OZ.

The only thing i would say is the double seat has 5 mounting points and the single only has 4.

Its not a real problem but i know you have some strict rules to altering your vehicles

I dont think anyone notice for you but if you sell the van i could open a can of worms.

Only late model diesel T4s could come with the seat.
      Good luck finding one.

so it is possible you just have to find a seat and then figure out how to mount it, you'll prob have to pull the fuel tank to be able to get to the floor under the seat to put in the new mounts. or maybe you can get a "dtcky seat" and put in the back they dont have to face the front , well they didnt not sure now. but maybe that will allow you to fit a seat in the back.
let us know what you find out.

How strange is this world we live in...

Folks here in the uk throw the doubles away and fit single captain seats...

I have just thrown one of these away...used some of bits and binned the rest.

my '02 t4 petrol has the bench seat and I can still (just) squeeze between the front seats to get into the back although I doubt a stout person would be able to.

I saw one for sale on ebay a week or two ago (from memory: the seller was from Newcastle). I know it doesn't help you now but illustrates the fact that they *are* around although you may have to look hard to find one.

Thanks heaps guys, that gives me hope!
I will look into getting it engineered so its legal but I dont thing I have much choice?
I want a full size bed (splits into a lounge up one side) so it dosnt leave me much space for a seat in the back! Shouldve bought a lwb..
That good news about not having to move anything, and the slim possibility of being able to SQUEEZE through is a bonus.
Over to ebay I go then!

                Hi Vannin,
This fellow had 3 x T4s he was parting out at Mudgee,
Jotted down the number from E bay several weeks ago.
never rang him, 1 was a LWB syncro/ambulance, the other is a SWB and later he had a S/C tray back that had a bench seat in it, had blown engines.
                0400 813 007.
The trading post, has a few wreckers with T4s listed.
