Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • km/h to mph conversion

    Hi,
I'm new to this forum so I hope I hasve not posted this in the wrong place.

I need to get my 2005 T5 Transporter Multivan converted from km/h to mph, preferably in Australia, so I can take it back to the UK. (Yes, I love Australia but my father needs looking after). Why here? Because every dealer I have spoken to in the UK is useless, it seems.

I know the cluster has to be changed but is the computer affected? VW Australia don't know and dealers don't know.

Has anybody here any clues who does this work? (The cluster can be bought here).

The UK authorities would accept an "overlay" on the speedo - does anybody know if the speedo is accessible, i.e. can the perspex cover come off?

Any help gratefully received. Many thanks.

    David

wouldnt it be easier to sell your Oz version here and buy a replacement in the UK?

Given how expensive cars are here, and depreciation rates in the UK, plus cost of transport, I suspect you might end up pocketing some cash in the process

I think I have seen some posts on the brickyard forum about removing the perspex cover to clean the dust that gets in from the holes for the reset buttons. IIRC someone broke their cover doing it - could be a bit fragile, so be careful.
