  • Life of 4motion/syncro?

My T3 Syncro Campervan has an appetite for viscous couplings. After about 120,000km they seize up and load up the drivetrain which leads to serious $$$ in repairs. I have given up and removed the prop shaft.
As the front diff ratio is numerically lower than the rear diff the coupling must slip ALL THE TIME - even when you are travelling straight. So on long runs on bitumen it heats up and tightens up bigtime (I believe that claims that viscous coupling problems are due to uneven tyre wear is a furfy).
Anyway, having a high pain threshold, I am now in the market for a T5 4 Motion.
Does the 4 Motion system use the same (awful) technology ie a viscous coupling?
What is the normal life span? ie would I be a mug to buy one with 100k km on the clock?
    Most grateful for yr comments.

Heres an article for T3 owners.

The T4 has a freewheel that seems to save the transmission & VC.
I believe the 4 Motion is further improved.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

T5 runs the Haldex system - It may not be quite as ideal as the T3 system for serious offroad, but it is much more long term reliable.
