  • T5 window Tints?

I'm thinking of getting the windows tinted on my van. I stopped into 1 shop today, they quoted $300 for 5% on rear glass and 15% on driver and passenger, it would be cheaper if I went 15% all round.

What do you have? I'm sure the extra dark would look good but is it practical when traveling at night?

Does any one have pics of there van with tints?

I had the darker tint on my Vito in the past and I had to roll the windows down to see at the intersections. (20/20 vision). It wasn't very practical. T5 glass is already tinted so I wouldn't put very dark tint on it, it could also be illegal.

My Multivan Comfortline had tint added via the dealer when purchased. It is the darkest legal tint in Victoria - but not so dark that you can't see through it. (ie not 'ambulance privacy tint'). You can still see in and out fine, and looks great without looking like an FBI or 'A' team van.

The Multivan Highlines came with the dark privacy coloured glass for the rear and rear side windows, but this is not 'tint'.

Any reputable tint provider should be able to advise on the appropriate tint to use.

      Regards,

      Scott

Here's my Highline. Hopefully you can see the comparison between the front and the middle/rear windows in terms of the factory darkened glass. Sorry about the reflections in the glass. I couldn't get into a photo position that didn't have any reflections.

Shogun, are they green or is it just the picture making them look that way?

As good as the ultra black tints look I just dont think they will be practical. I am going to stop into another shop and see what they have to offer.

Just keep it LEGAL, and you'll have no problems.

              Very interesting reading this...

Is the tinting the same as the UK?

You can tint the rear as much as you like?
(because a van does not have windows)

The windscreen can not have anything applied to it.

The driver and passenger windows have to let 75% of the light through.

If you get stopped by the police they test it with a light meter.

If you fail they have the right to make you pull it off there and then!
(this happened to me farther inlaw on our way to France).

              Thanks Rob

I'm going to get the Midnight Express tints from SolAce(Tintacar). $395 with warranty and fully legal. Should be done early next week, I will post some pics when done.

It's just the lighting that makes it look green. They just look dark from inside.

If you are registered in NSW, the RTA Vehicle Standards Information sheet VSI03 states that our vans can have the cargo bay area windows blacked out. *VIN must state class NA.

                    http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registrati...vsi03_rev3.pdf

This is consistant with the fact that: commercial vehicles are not obliged/mandated to have cargo area windows (this includes the tail gate); driving commercial vehicles necessitates the use of external mirrors.

                    Refer to the sheet.

I checked my Kombi Beach VIN and it is a NA - light goods vehicle.

I shall be going rather dark for security but may go for external "window sign writing". You can see clearly through it from the inside, but can see bugger all from the outside...

I've just had my '98 tinted - like yesterday. I'll try to post some pics this weekend. The price was $295 for all four windows (driver, passenger and sliding door, and back window). The legal requirement in Qld is a minimum 35% natural light transmission on the driver and passenger windows and as dark as you want behind that, including the back window.

I had a vehicle before that I got tinted and went legal all round and was rather disappointed with the appearance. It looked insipid so I decided to go one step darker than legal with the van, including on the driver and passenger windows. We'll see if it attracts the heat (sorry about the pun) but with the number of bean-can-exhausted, dropped-on-their-guts, tinted-mafia-black Skylines and Sylvias getting around here on the Gold Coast, I'm thinking the cops aren't going to be too bothered by a Plain Jane white van.

It looks great from the outside. I've only driven the van once since - that was home from the tint shop; it felt a little strange and yes the tint did seem dark but that was cos it was plain before and I think it can be got used to. If not, I'll just have the driver and passenger windows redone, it's as simple as that.

                        window tints

had the beach tinted first up before delivery, the rear windows were tinted at factory so they ended up extra dark, which we like, the driver and passenger sides were done legal, the darker windows are fine at night, i still get good vision.
during the day they give an extra bonus that it is quite hard to see what is inside the car.

                        some pics Evo

i got 5% on the rear and sides and 25%(darkest legal) for driver/passenger on my crewvan. Looks hot. Still good and practical at night. This was the second time i had it tinted as i was not happy with tint a car also. I went to a little independant guy for the second time and i couldn't be happier with the result and the price. Do i see a pattern emerging with tint a car????
