  • 8 seats in a Multivan?

    Hi

I can finally afford a used Multivan, but would really like one extra seat. Would anyone know if it is possible to fit 3 seats across the front of a Multivan as can be found in some Transporters and T5 Kombis?

I imagine there could be some airbag issues - would lose the inseat bags for one...

    Thanks

I drove a new T5 Caravelle the other day whilst my Multivan was in at the dealers for the day. It had the duel front passenger seat fitted. I am not sure where you are located, but give Burwin VW a call for further details and airbag implication - if any.

I have seen the transporter with 9 seats.

Dont know if you can only get them in the UK.

But it means you can get them factory spec.

Thanks guys for the comments. I'd forgotten about the Caravelle.

The more I think about it, the more the airbags in the seat sound like a problem. If they're disconnected, I suspect the airbag system might be very unhappy.

I guess a 9 seat Kombi may be a better bet for me than trying to upspec a Multivan. There are more used Multivans about though, and the engines in the Kombi seem a bit downmarket...

Much the same engines in both really though there was/is more choice in the Kombi versions engine wise.......which might explain why you see a few with the 2.0 petrol & diesel engines.

Don't be too put off though because if you can find the 75kW version of the 2.0L Tdi then I'd be happy to recommend it - has a better torque curve than the 75kW 2.5TDi in my T4 and it's no slouch especially when hooked up to a manual gearbox.

Of course.......the 128kW TDi would be the ducks nuts...

I believe the dealer can fit the dual front passenger seat to the Multivan or
T5 Caravelle. Check with the dealer regarding whether the front side curtain air bag is compromised. I cannot comment on the airbag in the front seat. I suspect it does not have one in the dual seat. But that may depend on whether the seat was fitted at the factory or dealer. I know Burwin VW do fiit a number of these seats.

              Hey Guys,

An extra seat can be fitted to the T5,which is called a jump seat. This one in the photo is supplied by Auto Extras here in Brisbane.

I would imagine that other suppliers would be available throught out Oz.

              Cheers

                Aaaron.

That's a good solution, as it won't dispense with the passsenger front seat (with air bag) on the Multi.

                Cheers,

                Scott

On second thoughts the arm rests on the Multivan seats might obstruct the middle seat?

Thanks for the suggestions, the jump seat looks good. I guess you could always unscrew the armrests on the Multivan.

Now to find one to buy...

I was chatting to someone about this and they told me you can put the rear bench from a multivan in the middle of the vehicle.
This would then give you three seats in the back, three seats in the middle and two seats in the front.
                          Total number of seats eight.
                          Does that fix your problem?
You could sell the two single middle seats to put towards the cost of the new seat.
