FAQ. Might not be current
T5 FAQ and How to THREAD (up to August 2009).
Your engine code should be in the front of your manual (AXE/BPC/etc)
Pump Deuse (PD) engines need 506.01 oil. It's hard to find.
here's some info, few years old though...
506.01 T5 Owner - where to purchase 506.01 spec oil??????
I'm using a Penrite 507.00 for my 04 AXE engine (don't tell Transporter
)
They run narrow cam lobes, which results in high cam pressures. Can get cam probs with high mile vehicles, pulsing in intake at idle
If its an auto(tiptronic), i strongly recommend getting rid of the standard coolant/oil cooler. The coldest your gearbox oil can ever be is the coolant temp, which is normally 90C.
This tends to cook seals and o-rings in the gearbox, leading to probs.
My auto was fully rebuilt around 180K and lotsa $$$$
Get yourself an air/oil cooler, gearbox should run a lot cooler. About $500ishLast edited by Rebuild; 07-03-2025, 10:42 AM.Steve
