Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Pirelli Scorpion ATR 235/65 R17 on my T5.1

In 2020 I was anticipating some further outback driving and sought decent tyres for my van. I had had the van lifted 35mm and wanted larger (legal) tyres. At that time there were few options available that ticked sufficient boxes, but I settled on 235/65 R17 108H Pirelli Scorpion ATR tyres.

I put a set on in July 2020 and had to replace them in July 2023. That was 3 years, 2 weeks and 36,270km later.

I must say that I have been extremely happy with them. They are great on bitumen and given normal road and wind noise in a T5, I didn't notice any difference in noise. They hugged the road well and I have never had an issue with them. I felt they did well on gravel and on muddy roads.

So this is a positive recommendation.

As an alternative to this size, I’ve bad no problems with Cooper ATT for my T5.1 4motion:
      Cooper Tires(R) ATT | Lifestyle all-terrain tyre

      I use the 235/60/17
60 profile fits in the spare area

The other option would be 225/65/17 ? BFGoodrich

Been running the Pirelli Scorpions for a year now a T6.1 4motion and have been good. Only complaint is they tend to pickup small stones that get caught in tread pattern a lot more compared to Toyo AT's I had on previous vehicle.
