Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Can someone confirm for me the Allen key size to remove the sliders? My 7mm didn't fit and nothing else does either. 8mm fits in, but is loose. I don't think there'seven a 9mm Allen key!

Also which disc do I need? Is it a 340mm disc?

    Thanks in advance.

From memory it’s 9mm. You can get 9mm from Bunnings.

Just occurred to me.. I don't need to do the sliders. Just the 2 big bolts. Sorted...

Now I have to work out how to do the rears...

          Before and after!

You'll need to wind the piston back on the rear callipers. It is a pain without the correct tool.

              That's nice even wear.
When one of mine is at nothing................the other has about 3 or 4 mil left on it.
              (not a 4Motion though)

OP, seek and you will find...
                Rear brake piston

i had uneven wear on mine, and i thought it was caused by the pad guides becoming distorted, holding the pads slightly instead of letting them float.Restraightened them on reassembly
