  • T4 Radiator removal tool

I have a T4 transporter, 97 model and I need to move the radiator to get access to the engine bay. Neither the owners handbook or the workshop manual I have mention the special tool supplied with the toolkit or how to use it. Basically, where does it go and which end do you use. Can anyone help please.

The tool you need goes between the wing and the panel between the wings on the front of the van.

It just unhooks the clip that holds them together.

If it has been done before you can sometimes use something thin to get in the gap.

    Hope it helps Rob

I have tried to use the tool & it just gets stuck. I use a special hook on a loop handle that I bought somewhere & that always works. Make sure all the self tappers are removed before trying to pull the panel foreward-- 2 on the bottom & 3 along the top. To make it easier next time I put a small amount of teflon grease on the pins & plastic clips, 4 places. BTW when lifting the whole assy don't lift be the plastic panel surrounding the radiator, it can break & quite easily.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

        radiator removal tool

Thanks for the information, I was misled by the information provided in the manual I have (Brooklands Books Ltd) which just said remove the two screws on the top of the radiator cross member and pivot it forward, no mention of removing the 5 screws holding the grille.
