  • New(Used) T5 Multivan Owner.....I'm Stoked!

Hi fellas, I just picked up a Silver 2005 T5 Multivan 2.5 auto yesterday. As a kid growing up my parents had a 2 mid/late 70's Micro buses and I have some great memories of some of the trips we did up the coast. Hopefully my kids can have some good times in T5. The humble VW bus certainly have come a long way from those days!!!

I have a many many questions to ask but will start off with only a few. The armrest on a few of the seats seem to be flopping around a bit so I pulled off the plastic cover and have discovered I need a Triple Square drive to remove/tighten them. I'm assuming they are loose and just need to be tightened up......is this the case? If so what size drive is it 8mm?

Is there a wrecking yard that has these late model vans as I need a few missing/broken interior pieces..... The sliding table being the biggest item!

Is there any specifics I need to be aware off regarding the motor/gearbox or any other mechanical items? Thing that are know problems etc?

    Cheers
    Ivo

      Congrats,
Not sure on the size needed for your spline drive tool (if that's the right term), I went to Alltools and asked if I could check the fit, they were more then happy and I bought 2, sorry can't remember the sizes.

Thanks for the welcome guys, I'm just hoping that I can just tighten them up with the right tool and its not a bushing or plastic molding that is damaged and causing them to flop about.

Do a search on oil coolers & water pumps. Here is an interesting write-up on trans. oil change by one of our members.

Another name for the tool you are after is XZN if it is indeed a triple square & not a torx.
Welcome to the forum, hope we hear more from you.

Is this the same tool that fits the baby seat fixtures on the rear of the rear bench seat?
Is the table you are looking for the centre one that runs on the rail system? Mine is in the garage - it keeps getting in the way ...

Shogun2, I'm not sure of its the same tool for the baby seat attachment point or not, have not had a chance to look.

The sliding table is the one I'm talking about.

I went by a tool shop and picked up a set of bits. They call it a spline drive, its 10mm and now my armrests are no longer flopping around!

According to the digital display.... around 9.5l/100 for the average trip of 50k from the suburbs into Newcastle and return. But if its just a really short trip from home, say only 5-7km total its about 12l/100. But I have some short steep hills in my neighbour hood.
