Serpentine belt replacement.

Hey all.

I'm just about to do the dsg oil & filter change on the weekend , (going the slow way, measure what comes out then put it back in though filter hole)
Anyway I haven't found much on doing the serpentine belt on the interweb , just wondering how hard of a job it is & if there's anything to look out for.
It's on a 2011 t5 multivan tdi340. 2.0l 7spd dsg.

If you put back in what comes out, it'll be under-filled. You need to overfill it, and drain off the excess on level ground while it's running.

Serpentine belt is a bit of a pain to do, from memory due to a lack of room, but not impossible.

Thanks for reply, is there a reason why it would be under filled if you measure the exact amount that comes out? Then put that back in ?

They're underfilled from the factory.

The only way you'll know if the oil level is correct, is to do it by the book.

It usually stuck on the first or second page of the Service Book.

Still haven’t got round to doing this yet.

Engine type is CCHA, is this what you meant by model number?

CCHA is the engine code.

It's the same for all 2.0lt diesels with aircon, I think.

So took a long while before this was crucial to be replaced as I started getting a loud scratch/squeaking noise from the serpentine belt. Also noticed belt had split in it as well. So was time to searching for info again before I attempted this, wanted to do the tensioner while replacing the belt. Which is the hard bit getting to & undoing the bolt that holds it on. My son & I managed to get this done in about 3 hours.
His smaller 12 year old hands came in handy for this [emoji12]
Van up on stands at front, RH front wheel off, wheel arch cover off, under engine plastic tray off, loosen AC Pump for slightly better access . This video I found regarding some tools to use saved the day:

So basically followed his video & went and bought some spanners to cut up, here’s a pic of my tools I used for this job. It does take some patience & is tricky, did find the bolt not to be to tight which helps a lot. Hope this will help folk out who want to attempt this. Good work.
I had to change an alternator (not an easy task).........and then six months later I had to change the tensioner!
I realised then that the tensioner would be EASY! with the alternator out.

If I'm ever mucking about in that area with something else, I change the belt just to be sure.
It's a real pain if that goes out and about.
I've found that you can only get about 20kms once the alternator stops working.
