Crafter Fuel consumption

Got my new crafter finally, 120kw TDI 6 speed manual. Fuel consumption has been averaging 11.8-12.0 litres/100km for the first 3000k's no matter how i drive it.

Which is ok, but a mate of mine who has a LT35 2.5 MWB 6 speed manual cosistently gets around 10 litres/100km, sometimes better. Trying to workout why my newer supposidly more efficent 2.5 gets worse fuel consumption. Sure it make more killer wasps but under normal driving it should come real close to the older model. Any thoughts? DPF related?

All VWs are thirsty when new. Takes a while to run one in. Consumption will improve over the next 10000ks for sure.
I think it's too early to say it's not normal.

Yeah fair enough, I wouldnt expect it to improve 1.5 - 2.0 litres/100km though once run in, which is what i expected it should do in comparison to the older model LT35. It did another re-gen on the way home yesterday, gee it runs like a piece of **** when thats going on, if I didnt know better and knew what was going on i would be taking it back to the dealer.

Im getting about 500kms - 550kms per tank in my Pantech Crafter 50 120kw manual....which I think is around the 13-14L /100km mark.

My Crafter 35 100kw 6spd manual doing the same work returned 12.5L per 100kms.

Neither of them changed much as they have got older in weekly fuel consumption there always pretty much the same.


I dont like the digital gauge....I can drive 80kms before the 1st of 10 little digital lights goes out, yet I can only get 80kms out of the last quarter of a tank as it does an almighty dive for the empty mark!

Blame Mercedes for the fuel gauge, my T1N Sprinter does the same thing, first quarter of the gauge can go for 200odd km, 100L fuel tank, but the last quarter is gone in just under 100km! According too our fleet management software I'm getting about 12L/100km doing urban courier work, '03 Sprinter 313 SWB Sprintshift for reference. Apparently there is no chance of VW Crafters replacing the Sprinters unless VW gets rid of the powershift transmission, we've had huge issues with clutches and flywheels failing on our Sprinters and company policy says autos only.
