  • Dieselgeek short shifter- Fitted!

    G'day Guys.

Fitted the Dieselgeek Short Shifter to the Postvan this arvo.

Took about an hour, including taking the airbox out etc etc from driving the van into the shop, to driving it back out.

Didn't take long to adjust and everything fitted properly.

Being a machinist myself, i must say i was happy with the quality of the kit. Machinework is very nice and tolerances are tight!

Big Thanks to Greg from Carformance for allowing these quality products to be easily available in Aus. You're a champion, mate!

I need to shorten the side-throw cable a fraction more, as it is hard to get 2nd from 3rd on the down shift (i'm getting better at 'finding' it, but you can't push all the way across and straight back).. But that's an adjustment issue.. Nothing to do with the kit itself.

Gear selection is a little more meaty than before. Much more feel, much more direct. It's a little notchier and heavier, but that's to be expected- You're reducing your mechanical advantage.

Over all, the throw is about half what it used to be in both directions. Front to back now is like going from in gear to neutral throw distance wise.

Bang for buck, great mod. Would do again and definitely recommend it.

Word of warning though, it enables you to change gears a lot faster than before. You need to slow your movement to match the same over all gear selection time or you WILL chew up your syncros.

I got addicted to short-shifters when I bought an Escort RS2000 years ago, and it came OEM.

I've loved them ever since, and frankly cant understand why OEM needs to be so sloppy

Where's that crash box when you need it?

Would you know of any that replace the 02J box but still have helical cut gears? The only crash box that I can find has straight cut gears and I couldn't live with the whine..

I can't imagine why anyone would want a dog box with helical gears..

PAR makes gear sets for the 02J, i'm pretty sure.

I've been in cars with straight cut gears - definitely not suitable for a family duty daily drive...

Nice work Mr Preen, apologies for not responding to your pics via SMS, decided to put the phone and computer down and actually have a break over Chrissy. I need to get some more in from Dieselgeek, just Viezu popped up unexpectedly and wasn't exactly "cheap" to buy into. I am looking forward to using that extra cashflow to get in and hold a lot more stock than I have previously, so apologies to you Preeny and a few other blokes who have expressed interest, will be sorted this month!

I must comment on the diesel geek support. I bought 2 in a few years ago direct. The problem was that in the TDI box in my Sportline not being available in the USA, there was a point where the shape of the lobe fouled. I emailed them about this and included pics. To my surprise I got phone call from them about an hour later (11pm our time) and we spoke the problem through. In the end I simply cut off the bit that was fouling with the grinder, but I thought an international phone call in response to an email issue was awesome.

No problems, Greg! I completely understand, mate.
