  • Caddy - Rear Seat Retrofit

    G'day folks,

Is it possible to fit a set of two removable rear seats & belts (such as those that are fitted in the rear of the 'Caddy Life') to a commercial single sliding door Caddy, and have it registerable?

    Thanks very much.
    Grant.

There's a Cleaning mob in town with a Caddy van that has rear seats. And i do recall someone mentioning something on here a while ago about it.

So, yes it appears it is possible. I've thought about it for my Caddy.. Didn't look into it any further though.

      Thanks Preen.

Yes, I have found it is possible, you can install the seats yourself, or have a professional do it. Registration requires an engineer's inspection and certificate.

The rear seat only has one seatbelt connected to the actual seat in the caddy life (looking at photos on the VW Aus site), and the other is coming from the left of the seat as its mounted to the actual vehicle. Is there a mount hole/mount etc in the commercial caddys for this or would it involve something more?

Dunno, I simply phoned a business that performs seat modifications, they advised it was possible and it did not sound difficult. The only requirement was the Engineers certificate for registration.

I had also found using google some sites showing rear seat mods for disabled units etc in caddys.

I had a 3 seat bench installed in my maxi when I got it. Cost was $2400ish trade including the engineers inspection and report.
I was after a specific seat though which had built in seat belts.
              Bench seat up

              Seat folded down

              Seat rocked forward

The false floor extension of my sliding drawers sitting over the seats folded down. Coincidentally I fitted the false floor back in tonight after having it out for 2 1/2 years

That's brilliant. Do you remember the name of the company that did it?

I'm not sure I'm allowed to post up their details as they're not a sponsor on the forum. PM me and I'll pass along some details.

They are great people and fantastic to deal with and know their stuff. I have no doubt they would do a first class job. I just couldn't accept over $4000 for a seat as being good value.
