wiring to third rear light

Hi I am wondering if any one has had to re-wire the rear third light. bought a new one, tested and working however does not work when plugged into the connector.

not sure how to pull out the rubber bungs that the wiring goes through that travels downt he inside of the rear door.
it is a caddy maxi-van 2008 and going well
