Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hi guys.

Any bid on where this sound (knocking) comes from?
It’s loudest around 2000 rpm if i feather the throttle.

There are no bad sounds at cold start.
The knocking is also not present when the enigne is started and in “cold start mode”.

Direct injection is pretty noisy. Swing past VW if you're really concerned. Or compare to another one.

      Hi’

      Have done both.

Reference car didnt have that noise.

Vw say it’s working-noise from the cam adjustment devices. Hilarious..

BMW Vanos makes knocking noises (barely audible) at around that RPM, so not impossible.

        Cheers

All good fast motors will be noisy & clunky at low speeds, cold start , etc.
But thay go reel good when warmed up proper. Listen to a drag racer when it starts up(ugh), but when warm is awesome.
          And can fup easier
          That's how motors go !!
Want a quiet, super reliable bot OK engine, then get low tech motor. Maybe something from Asia. But sacrifice fun/performance.
