Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    hey guys,

I'm thinking maybe sometime in the future to upgrate to a k03/k04 Turbo... I found this turbo on a site http://www.gpopshop.com/kkkturbos.html

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=200242889030

does anyone also know how much more power you would get out of one of these?

It SAYS 1.8T engine, not sure if this would suit a polo gti..

Just out of interest do you have other upgrades to support the bigger turbo?

Just wondering as I would go for a bigger intercooler or charge cooler before a turbo.

You also need a different tune, APR will give it to you for $700 unless you buy the part from them from memory.

Also, you'll need better cooling and induction for a bigger turbo I would have though.

That to me looks like a k03s based on the fact it says k03/k04 so just want to check that

You can get suprising performance results from upgrading your intercooler.

I would do this before I upgraded the Turbo, that should be last on the list.

Its pretty much the same turbo but your replacing the front end of the turbo.. you can run it at a higher boost. you can use the same down pipe, its a direct bolt on, except to get more power an exhaust is suggested...

here is some very intersting info i came across....hmmm maybe its not really worth the swap i guess...

That turbo wont fit the polo unless you run an S3 manifold. The compressed air outlet is placed differently to the K04-001 that is used on the polos.

Thats an A4/Passat turbo , its completely different .
Your running a KO3s , not worth changing to ko4 unless your searching for every last hp !

From what I understand is the K03s and K04 use same size compressor wheel? K03s has slightly smaller turbine wheel/housing (not sure which one, if not both) than the K04...SO IM ASSUMING the K03/K04 turbo will be a different attachment on the turbine wheel housing assembly? Isn’t that what a k03/k04turbo is? Your original turbo with the different assembly?

Yeh your probably right there mate, I realised now that it wouldn’t be worth it considering its only a 5mm difference on the turbine wheel, which would threrefore mean more turbo lag I would be guessing.

The one posted in the OP has a different housing to the one that is used in the polos.
