Its all in timing your start to the lights. He drag races so he is very good at response times when the lights change.
Motor/Wheels etc usually test with 1/2 tank of fuel and do overly strain the drivetrain and don't flat change.

the 0-60 time he is talking about is the 0-60ft time.

The mind boggles what sort of time he could do in the 911 Turbo

I think he is honest about there being no overt mods to the engine of his car.

Guys I think this can be debated until ur all blue in the face but one factor is clearly being over-looked here. Now I know those with Red cars have claimed for years that they go faster but this is in fact not correct. No red Polo could have performed as well as this Candy White beauty has. I too have a white Polo only I have a black bonnett spray which only enhances the aero-dynamics of this awesome performer. Red and Blacks step aside.
White GTi's unite........and kick some glutes!!!

Its stock as a rock... hi-flow filter will add plenty of power for a standard polo when fitted correctly. He got the start nearly every time. 150m sprint is great for the light polo. And if its was mod its would get eaten alive by the ralliart colt & r32. I pull 15.4 stock with 2.8 bar in the front tires, dead stock. So he's bout right there.

As has been stated before... hi-flow filters add bugger all to power outputs...

this topic is maybe old but i have had a good laugh about all this
and i still want to give my thought about this because its me and my polo you see in the video of Ciney...

for what it's worth, here we go...
my Polo had stock 161Hp and 250nM, i just wanted to know what it had when it was stock and with every mod i do, i'll put it on the dyno again.
and with only an airfilter i was at Ciney.
you should know that vag engines mostly have more HP than they should have factory quoted.
and as i said, Ciney was a verry short dragrace (about 150m.) so it was all or nothing from standstill launch.
so tyres where on 1.8 bar and backseat was taken out.
for the rest it was 100% skill... what can i say?
my time at Ciney was 7.4sec but it's not an official length of dragstrip so it doesn't matter.
i can tell you that i reached my fastest 0-60 time there that day, measured with my Gtech meter and i did 6.3sec.

i have seen alot of possible theories on this topic about what i have done to my polo... what i say is done to it, thats it.
i wish i could prove it on one way or another to the fellow GTI owners on this forum, but you have to trust me on this one i quess.
in the beginning it was fun that people tought i have had it tuned and stuff.
but you guys can't imagine how many mails i have got from people who diddn't believe it. (not only friendly mails for one reason or another)
but i really want to set the record straight on this forum.
and i hope i done that a bit, so if you have Questions, please ask, i'll be more than happy to help you guys out

ps: The M5 and surely the 911 turbo really kicked my ass :-p
it may seem i have the upperhand, but don't let your eyes fool you.
and about the R32, it's not that fast (stock) and i recon any other polo GTi could kick it's ass or is equally fast!

I thought i recognised the car!
                Great work on the launches.

Just imagine how it would go with the mods you are doing/have done now.
The Polo GTI is built for stuff like this.

Did you buy your car from new??? The reason I ask is that those figure are nowhere near what people are getting in Aus on a Dyno, for a stock car most people are getting about 93kw atw (approx 125 HP atw). As you said driving skills makes a huge difference but 161 hp is not a stock car and when factory is quoting 8.2sec 0-100 you cannot take 2 seconds off that just with a good launch unless you have a polo GTI CUP edition......

Yeah is 161hp atw or at the fly? In Aus we have 110kw stock at the fly, 161hp is 120kw...

If that was a dyno at the wheels figure, then your car is not the same we get in Aus. Did you buy it new or second hand? Maybe the guy before you chipped it.

As above, I have never seen 2seconds taken off a 0-100 time, but glad to be proven wrong.

Even on the Motor Magazine test, the 400HP Golf GTI got a 0-100 time of 6.2s... And that was specially set up in ideal conditions and all.

I dont think numbers really matter here, the video speaks for itself. Just watching the launch its clear that instigator has skill as shown by smashing AWD cars off the line. With the 161hp no doubt its at the flywheel, maybe he just got a gem engine or ran it in a bit differently.

                      Great Vid.

Yea the launch is ridiculous, I want to know the secret haha.

How does he beat an awd R32 off the line, when every single other drag I've seen on youtube shows awd winning.

Weird. But yeah, where do I learn how to launch like that.

edit: How do you explain this? Driven by a professional driver, with ALOT more power, better suspension, tyres, etc.

one of the return comment by him on youtube said he builds revs up to 3k and let it off smoothly but iv tryed it and it kinda just spins the wheels all the way to 2nd gear

Yea I noticed he starts rolling before any of the others even move in the video, is that allowed?

The launch I learnt was rev to eg 3k, then dump the clutch. If it spins too much, use less revs.

                            Thoughts?

Tyre pressures make a difference. I haven't read through the pages of this so it may already be mentioned. Pretty sure the drag guys run a lot lower pressure then what we would drive around with normally .... they aren't worried about side wall flex in corners, etc.

Kai would be the best to comment on that as he seems to be our resident straight liner

LOL! I wouldn't call the journo's that gun the cars around for Wheels/MOTOR professional drivers by any stretch.

They've often been WELL off the pace when it comes to 0-100km/h and 1/4 mile times.

Put is this way, back in my WRX ownership days... no journo had ever got a MY05 WRX anywhere near the Subaru quoted time of 14.0 (down the 1/4), instead I saw lots of 14.5's and the like in magazines. Where as in the WRX community a number of people had gone that quick, and one guy even went 13.9 in a completely stock example.
Previous Rides: Polo GTI, Mx5 10AE, MY05 WRX WRP10, Renault Sport Clio 172
Current Ride: Evo 8 MR, Fabia MK3
