He didn't stay with or pull away from a 911... he beat it's start and then it swamped him.

He definitely gave the 911 a run for its money! therefore... it can't be stock! otherwise we all pretty much wasted our money getting it chipped!

            Look outside the square...

He admitted to removing the back seat to shave off 30kg... What else did he remove to shave off some kg... How many of those winks did he throw into his response.. either hes a little queer or he was suggesting to read into his comments a little more.

I reckon by looking at the photo of him, hes also removed his ribs and knocked half his teeth out to shave off another 30kg and according to him .2 seconds..

Even Volkswagon claim 8.2 seconds 0-100km/h in their brochure.. How does he anniliate their time by 1.7 seconds..

My APR Polo would be lucky to do 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds.. Would VW even release a car that is less than half price that beats its own flagship R32?? (Stock)

Just wanna point out 2 things....

              1. he is claiming 0-60mph times... 0-100kph is 0-62mph... so he will lose time there... esp since the GTI shifts from 2nd to 3rd around this time (am I correct?) so maybe he doesnt lose time there.. and this would reflect in a slower 0-100kph time than a 0-60kph...

              and more importantly

              2. Did he name his GTI Ciney????????

I am sittin' on the fence with this. From the vid you can see he is using a high flow K&N. Could it conceivably give you an extra 10HP? Not only that but in each case he won the race, sans the 911, in the first second of the start. Game over right there. Infact I reckon he jumps the start on more than one occassion and if you watch carefully a few of those cars would easily smash him over a qtr mile so these videos can be a little deceiving. I also agree that VW must have understated their performance figures because I've always thought my stock polo was considerably quicker to 100kms if you got a good launch and had clean shifts. All it takes is one off shift or a spun wheel at the launch and its all over. Plus dont under estimate those sportmax SPs. I took my new chipped car for a huge fang today and experienced very little wheel spin if any at all and I thought I was really pushing it. It was of course a very nice mid 20s day today in Perth and the warmer the road the stickier those sportmaxx's get I have found. Maybe we have underestimated the mighty stock polo? But then again maybe he's pulling a shifty on us after all.

Great driving, great starting, and a great little car.

God help them all if he decides to cut sic on the mods... those 1.8s have a TONNNE of modding potential - probably more than anything else in the VW range.

I was under the impression that Aus customers get a slightly detuned version compared to what is released in Europe - hence his claims of slightly increased 'stock' HP figures?

I think they're still the 150BHP version in Europe but pretty soon after the initial release, they obviously thought it was underpowered, and bought out the 180BHP cup edition. But I could be wrong.

so the next time i go to a drag race (if that ever happens) ill flatten the tyres, remove the back and passenger seat, spare tire. and everything will be sweet! now for those practice boost launches.
