Do they still have Castrol SLX Professional? I checked Castrol website and couldnt find it, I thought maybe they stopped producing the SLX and replaced it with Edge Sport which has the same 5-30 viscosity as the SLX.
Anybody know if I can still get Castrol Professional SLX?

5w-30 is what is recommended by Castrol and is also the viscosity of the SLX Professional.Originally posted by brad View PostWhich Edge? 0w40 or 5w30? (or one of the other 2 versions)
According to the handbook, for long service life you need an oil which conforms to the VW 504 00 or VW 503 00 standards (of which Edge 5w-30 doesn't meet, but SLX Pro does meet 504 00 as it's engineered for VW).

Woops. badley worderd me. I meant "which did he see on the shelves for $60".Originally posted by Blitzen View Post0W-40 is the one you want.
My old car used Edge 5w30 & mates used to tell me it was on special & when I'd get to the car place it would be 20wXX
Castrol SLX Professional III LongLife Powerflow is still there. I think you'd need to find a distributor to buy it and possibly have to buy a carton.Originally posted by Bubu View PostDo they still have Castrol SLX Professional? At that price you can afford to do a DIY change every 7500kmcarandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

Some vw dealer spare part dep WILL sell you SLX Pro over counter. I prefer that any day for 15kms serv... in standard wussy tune this 1.8 eng do not work hard at all, so long term serv with the right oil is normal, i mean thats what vw recommended. The original oil filter is rated at 30kms interval, so not surprised if some dealer don't change filter at 30kms. BMW or Mini recommended 25kms serv interval or even variable... beat that lol. I'm a mechanic but i don't even have time to do 5kms service for mine lol. And don't complain that our Castrol SLX is expensive as approv Castrol for M3 is $30 a liter and they need 6L.
