Getting GTI colour coded

I've just got qouted $385 to get my gti colour coded ( frontbar, side skirts, rear bar) in 2pak. Now my question is this: the side skirts have screws underneath and at the ends which I undo, but when I try to take the skirt off it feels as though its glue on to body? Does anyone have any exerience with removing the skirts? Much thanks in advance.

I was going to ask about how to remove the frontbar but I've found the thread relating to this.

wow great idea, so instead if the fade to Black side skirts ur going the same colour as the car? Certainly cheaper than spending the 2k to get the Polo skirt kit from VW Aus.

Yeah mate, they're glued as far as I know - I didn't take mine off myself but they were certainly glued back on after I had it done.

i got a quote today to compare pricing to that of my brothers friend...

This place i went to today quoted me 600 for the front, sides and back but said they would be priming the surface then painting it. If i remember correctly i read somewhere that ppl had their side skirts, rear bar etc, sanded down before it was painted so its smooth?? This guy said nah nah sanding isn't necessary, we prime our surfaces so the paint has something to stick to.. Does that sound lazy or is that normal??

He also said they couldn't guarantee that the clips would remain intact when removing all the parts and that they might have to buy new clips.

Also said taking the front bar off is a big job, and saying it'd get scratched up easily and that he would personally leave it out..

Opinions, should i just take it to the workshop where my brothers friend works?

binnyvo just get the panelbeater to do it for you. and make sure they primer it and sand down the primer to get a smooth finish.

missvuks 600 sounds lke a rip if you need a great panelbeater who's not bad on price let me know. just around the corner from mine.

I think you should he dosent sound very professional.

There used to be a guy at Hamilton Road Smash Repairs on Hamilton Rd, Fairfield that did a good job. He was honest and good to deal with. However I havent been there for years so I dont know if its the same owner etc etc. I cant remember his name either.

Haha Lora, I think this is a case of guy thinks he can outwhit a girl and thinks he has until girl goes and posts on forum and aks questions, type of situations lol.

Firstly if they were actually good, they take the clips off carefully not to wreck them. Sand down all parts, primer and then paint, and sanding in between if there is any type of orange peel.

I just went through the same process with my car I got the whole thing done and wasn't going to say yes to a **** job! His just saying that cause he sees your job as not being such a importance cause they would have "insurance jobs" to do.

Do a bit of a search a good panelbeater should be able to colour match anything without any problems and they shouldn't charge that much at all!
