  • What Coilovers?

Hi guys, I'm after some advice on which coilovers to get?

My crapy FK's have failed which came with the car and now it's time to upgrade... I'm not tracking it, just for fun and a cool stance with a decent ride.

ST XA's or WEITEC HICON GT's?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

    Cheers Adam

Hey Adam, there's a few of us running MCA Blue setups on here. Adjustable, come with camber top mounts. Can get springs to suit road/track and anywhere in between. Not the cheapest option around but buy cheap buy twice.

Happily take you for a run in my Polo to demonstrate them.

PM me for my number if you want to hear more.

A few guys on here have had the ST and Weitec. I think perhaps more with Weitec. I've never seen a complaint on either, as opposed to FK gear... Also worth considering the MCA stuff (locally assembled, overseas parts), though as they are made to order, could have a long-ish lead time.

        Thanks guys,
Ive been researching this topic way too much and can't make a bloody decision!!
        Weitec gt 15-45 or 35-65?
        ST x or ST xa?
        H&R spring with bilsteins?
MCA looks insane but I'd like to stay close to the $1000 mark if possible?

I dont know... HELP!! I just want some thing that that's going to handle well not for track just a daily driver.

I can't recall anyone running those particular set ups on a Polo.

I would probably go with coilovers myself. Although it's worth pm'ing superchimp. He just fitted an H&R cup kit I think.

I've got H&R and bilstein on my silver polo. They are the lower of the 2 H&R springs available. I now only blast up and down the highway and they're great. If driving on bad roads often, I'd probably not go the lower of the springs available as travel is limited. It's a marginally firmer ride than my H&R coilovers, the coilovers have more travel. There's few instances I've ever regretted the bilstein approach. It handles and feels awesome.

I'm on Brisbane's south side (or work near the airport), if you can get to me I'd be happy to take you for a run around to demonstrate.

I only just saw this thread.. I got a h&r cup kit from German ebay for 700ish. The car feels a lot more "on rails" now, and not really any harsher than before. Its not totally perfect, they do feel a bit crashy over bumps.

I just thought for the money I was going to spend, the equivalent coilovers would be firmly in the budget range. Plus I don't care about being super low.

I spent weeks over thinking it as well, so your not alone

                Thanks Gavin,

The link you sent is to the demon tweaks website not to a particular set up? Can you be more specific please, this just gives me more option which not helping my frazzled brain!!
My car is terrible to drive atm!! The inner of the drivers side tire is shot!!

Also Thanks Sean, would love to take you up on the drive. I live in Stafford and work in Annerley so should be easy to organise something. I'll PM you my details.

Thanks guys for your advice and support. Hopefully I can make a decision soon... If anyone else wants to add there opinions that would be great and hopefully help someone else who is in the same situation.

you could buy a pair of front koni sport "yellow" dampers $640 aus locally bought, PM me about a set of koni rears and then you just have to buy your springs eg eibach, h and r, ST $200 odd.
