Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

REVO is done through a separate dongle that attaches to the OBDII port; it costs around $300 extra

You need to have the car off, only takes about 30 seconds though. But in reality, once you turn it on, you won't want to turn it off
yeah good call. i have had my car since december and have put it back to stock i think maybe twice for about 5 mins each time....the stocko power just frustrates me knowing theres so much more to give at the press (or two) of a button...

So what makes the most gain in a re-chip - did they dial up the boost pressure with revised fuel mapping to suit?

Claimed numbers are all very similar. Torque and power curves are different.

Go to the relevant websites and compare

PS: APR/Oettinger tunes are the same, Oettinger costs more but has a warranty.

just keep in mind that company claims and actual gains can vary hugely with altitude, atmospheric temps, fuel type, age of car (it is common for cars to lose power as it gets older) etc. you don't know where these claims were measured.

for example, apr claims a 152kw at the fly.....on the brissy dyno day i got 122.2kw at the wheels which equates to approximately 140kw at the fly. my run was on at 2.30pm in the arvo on a reasonably hot day. still waiting for next dyno day for a re-run and a 'second opinion'.

              Cheers,
              Rhys

Mmm I guess I should have phrased my question better - what I actually meant was what was different about the new program from stock that allows these gains - eg higher boost pressure, or simply a different fuel map?

Still, should be available on manufacturer sites...

Our software is designed to operate within the turbochargers' efficiency range whilst producing huge increase in low end torque, improved throttle response and a much smoother, more powerful top end. Unlike other "chip tuning companies", we do not max out the boost pressure sensor in order to boost spike and give high initial torque readings. Although this maybe good for marketing purposes, it not only creates surge during acceleration at low RPM, but also reduces the life expectancy of the turbocharger considerably.

The EMCS is operated via a pushbutton that can be installed anywhere in the car and uses the engine check light on the instrument cluster to identify program changes.

All APR chip software comes with lifetime free upgrades. There is also a lifetime warranty against defects in the software or soldering. All chip upgrades have a 30-day Money Back Guarantee.

Actually on the Polo there is more work on the timing than boost & fueling. If you are careful with the timing, there is a lot to be gained (obviously very Dependant on you running good fuel!)

Does chipping affect factory warranty and car insurance?

As it is a performance enhancement you should inform your insurer.
Whether your premium goes up is down to their risk calculation formulas

do some searching on here for discussion on the warranty side, it is a grey area but there have been some very comprehensive answers.

Short answer is you take a risk with any mod on a car within warranty.

chipping yes , some insurers wont touch you . others dont give a damn. waranty is not affected unless they can prove that chipping was the direct result of the damage that had been done.
