  • Polo - funny idle

    Hi there.

I have a 1997 pole 1.6lt. Sometime i have an idling problem wher it dles slightly more than normal, maybe 1200 revs. Today when i started it, it revved up to 2000-3000 revs. Playing with the accelerator it come down. if i hold accelerator to idle at about 2000, the tacho sort of pulsates down to 1500 then up to 2000, and back down and up again. I have a feeling it may happen when left in cold weather for some reason. I am going to check out the accelerator cable tomorrow and see if it might be sticking or something.

Just wondering if this bahavior could be due to a faulty sensor or somehting. Also i think my battery might be on its last legs, so will replace that too but not sure if that could be related.

    any hints appreciated.

    thanks
    Kim

Sounds like a throtle body issue perhaps? Chuck it on VAG-COM...

Hi, i have done some more troubleshooting this morning. And find if i disconnect what i think is the Throttle Position Actuator elctric plug from the thottle body, the idle issue goes away it is smooth.

I have taken the cover off the Throttle Position Actuator to see if it is gimmed up or something. If this is the problem, can i replace that part, or am i up for a whole new throttle body?

      thanks
      Kim.

Post the part number of the thing you disconnected and I'll look it up on ETKA the parts catalogue and see if it is on there.
